I grab my coat and start walking out the door. I try to
call Emma but she isn’t answering. I don’t say anything to
anybody. I have to get to her. Now.

Twelve
Vince
I finally pull back up to the cabin. I feel like shit for
being gone this long. Man she is probably scared out of her
mind. I walk inside and not a light in the house is on. This
is not like Emma. She always wants to leave a light on. I
pull out my gun and I start to search the cabin. I swing
around the living room…nothing. I work my way around

the kitchen and through the dining room…nothing. My
heart starts beating faster as I approach my bedroom. I push
open the door and there she is.
Emma’s asleep. She is in a pair of panties and in one of my
t-shirts. I swear she looks like a goodness. I put my gun
back at my side as I walk over to her. I pull the blanket up
over her, brush the hair away from her face and give her a
kiss on the head. “Sweet dreams, Babygirl,” I whisper
before I walk out the room.
“Vince…?”Emma says in a yawn “Is that you?”
“Yes, baby girl it’s me.” I walk back over and sit on
the edge of the bed.

“You said that you would only be gone for a couple
hours. I thought you just left me here.”I can feel the
residual panic in her tone.
