“Alright, we’ll let him in,” Ian says calmly. “But first put

my pet up.”

Joseph walks over to me and puts the blindfold back over

my eyes. I stumble as he leads me back to the cage, where I

am left alone in darkness once again. I hate the quiet that

comes with being alone in this place. It makes my thoughts

race, reminding me of all the things I had lost since

becoming a captive here.

I try to focus on something else, something like Asher! He

isn’t like them. He never really speaks to me. He keeps his

distance and has never once tried to force himself on me. He

makes everything better, but the memories flood in like a

tidal wave. The way Ian had promised to take care of me,

how he’d made dinner for me and laughed at all my jokes.

How he’d seemed like such a good man when we first met.

But now I know better than anyone that people can be

deceiving, especially when it comes to money and power.

My thoughts are interrupted by the sound of footsteps

outside the door. I tense up as the footsteps come to a stop. I

peek through the open spot in the tarp. Trying to be as still

and quiet as I can.

“Marco,” Ian says with forced politeness.

“Where is the money you owe us?” Marco growls, his

voice rough and menacing.

“I just wanted to talk about that. We need more time,” Ian

replies, calmly.

“Time? You want more time? Well, I don’t have time for

your games, if I have to come here again then you really
