and I know we have to get ready for the worst,
while I also try to balance my growing feelings for
Emma. I just hope that I can keep her safe and not let her
get caught up in the dangerous world I’m a part of.
Hopefully, our date tonight
will be a nice escape from all of it.
Emma and Sarah finally return back, an hour and half
later. They both are loaded down with bags. I nudge Marco in the side. “ Looks like they did a little damage to your
bank account.” I tease. “Yeah, Yeah keep laughing.”
Marcos says. “just wait until it’s you spending that money
on a little one.”
I think of what it would be like,Emma being swollen with
my child. How beautiful she would look,but would I even
be a good father? I would probably screw that kid up. After
living the life I have, I don’t want to bring a child into that.
“Hey, Marco, you think I would be a good father?” I blurt
out, surprising even myself. Marco looks at me with
surprise and then sighs, ” Vince, I know you’ve always had
a tough exterior but I’ve seen how you are with kids.
You’re good with them and with Emma, I see the way you
look at her. Don’t underestimate yourself. You
would be a great father.”

I smile, feeling a sense of pride at Marco’s words. Maybe
one day I can have a family with Emma,but for now, I have
to make sure we both survive in this dangerous world. We
spend the rest of the evening talking and laughing, trying to
forget about our troubles for just a little while. As the night
comes to an end, I can’t help but worry about what’s to
come.
