Nearly two hours later, I am walking out of the salon with a new hairstyle and I fucking love it. I am riding the high and I feel good. I look amazing and that is what it is all about.

Fuck what people think about you, do you and be happy doing it.

Walking around enjoying my free time, I see something that again makes my heart happy.

Pushing through the glass door, the smell of tattoo ink and disinfectant hit my senses as I breathe it all in. My little friend with the short curly hair is sitting behind the desk, her head buried in a sketch book.

“Winnie,” I call out to her.

Her head snaps up, smiling shyly when she sees it is me calling her.

“Kady, what are you doing here?” Her question is soft spoken.

“Well, today is a day for big change and I wanted to do some things for me. So can you help me?”

Before she can reply, my name gets called from across the room by a deep voice that is like melted chocolate. Looking up, I see Zeb smiling at me.

“Kady girl, what are you doing here?” He comes to stand next to Winnie, smiling down at her, before kissing the top of her head.

His gaze scans over me and he nods his head. “Nice change. Looks good.”

“Thank you.”

“I like that. Mitch will love it, kiddo,” he praises her sketch, to which she smiles up at him, her cheeks tinting red.

To get the attention off her, I speak up.

“I want to get my nose pierced and if Winnie has time, I’d like a new tattoo.” I give him a hopeful look.

Shaking his head, he laughs.

“She can fit you in. It is her day off but this little miss decided to come in today and catch up on some sketching, even though she can do it at home, but…” he lowers his voice leaning forward a little, “we secretly love having her here all the time.” He winks.

Winnie blushes again, tucking some of her mass of curly hair behind her ear.

“Okay, I will leave you girls to it.” He walks away, and Winnie gets to her feet.

“Follow me, we can go to my station.”

I wave to Ranger, who is married to Zeb, and Lee, who is married to Jules, who usually works the front desk, as we pass.

“Have a seat.” I climb up onto the black leather bed that the customers sit on. “Nose first?” Winnie inquires, and I nod in answer.

She hands me a board that has lines of different sizes and styles of studs for my piercing.

“You will need to keep the stud in for around eight to twelve weeks, then you can change it out,” she tells me without looking up from what she is doing.

“Okay, cool. I’d like a thin hoop once it has healed up.”

“I like that. It suits the vibe that you have going on.”

I could listen to her speak all day long. Her voice is soft, sweet, almost sing-song. Winnie wouldn’t say boo to a ghost, she would ask if they wanted to speak to the living.

Not once have I seen her date or have a boyfriend, she keeps to herself or someone from the club. Growing up with heart issues, Winnie wasn’t one to branch out in the friendship category. From what I can see, she is still the same way.

Do not get me wrong, she has accepted the new girls who have married into the club, but besides that, she has no one.

One day she will notice that she is a catch and that a certain someone is interested in her.
