She tilts her head to the side and I get the mom look from her. I sigh and look down to my hands, picking at the nail polish.

I hate talking about my feelings and emotions; there is no need for it. Talking does not solve anything. When my ex hurt me, I went a little wild, and my family wanted me to talk to someone about it, so I did.

At the end of my therapy sessions I found that I didn’t feel any better. I just understood that my anger and pain were justified, but at the end of the day the fucker still hurt me and I still felt as though I was easy and worthless.

“I like Calder, Della, I do, but right now we are both in different places in our lives. I have my own business and I want to settle down, have a family of my own like my two sisters, and like the women here at the club have. Calder is still enjoying sticking it to any woman who looks at him,” I explain.

“Is that what you see, or hear, or is that what you think?”

“What do you mean?”

“Kady, when was the last time you saw Calder with anyone?”

I let her question sink in, and I think back. There have been no random women walking around here bragging that they bagged Calder lately. He has not been with anyone at Junction while I have been there either. Just drinking with the guys.

“That doesn’t mean that he has not been sleeping with anyone,” I try, albeit weakly.

“No, it does not. But he has not been flaunting it around the club; he wants you to see a different side to him, honey. We, his family, and his club already see it. When he found out about the attack, it was like he became a different person, and he made it his mission to get to you. I know that you woke up to him with you at the hospital and he stayed with you. If you did not like him being around you, touching you, then you being the strong-willed young woman that you are, you would have sent him packing.”

I nod, because she is right. It was soothing to know that he stayed with me when I was in the hospital, and when he stayed when I had my four stiches put in. It went to hell and my mood sunk into the basement of the hospital when he started flirting with the nurse in front of me; it just made me see that he will never be able to handle only being with one woman.

Over the last few weeks, he has found ways to touch me. He is always within distance for me to smell his heady male fragrance, which is something that makes my head spin. It is all Calder mixed with oil, and cotton.

He makes a point of being where I am, and like I said about the little touches… it drives me fucking crazy and horny at the same time.

I get what Della is saying and it does make me think that maybe he is turning in his whore-card.

Could he, though? I have known Calder for many years, and he has always been into sleeping with many women each week—can he just stop all of that and just be with one person?

Be with me?

“Kady.” My name gets bellowed, and I spin around to see Rookie standing in the entryway that leads down to church. “Can you come with me, please?”

I look back to Della, and I see her smiling lovingly at her man. She blows him a kiss, which he catches.

“Go. This must be important if they are allowing you in church. Even Kara is banned from going in there.”

“Kara?” I frown.

“Risky to you.”

I nod in understanding. I have never heard anyone call Risky by her given name before. You learn something new every day.

Pushing to my feet, my heartbeat picks up the pace, not knowing what I am walking into. Not once have I ever been inside of this room, because none of the Ol’ Ladies, or any women for that matter, need to be in on club business.

This scares me because it means it is something serious.

Did I do something wrong? I wrack my brain thinking and nothing comes to mind as I take the last few steps into the room.

All of the members are sitting around a large dark brown oak table, Magnum at the helm, sitting proud in his chair with a gavel in his hand.

Calder sits in his seat between Finan and Travis, grinning at me like a fool.

What has he done?

Rookie takes his seat and Magnum speaks up.

“You know the younger brothers run Rugged Hunters.” I nod. “They have a case that they are having some trouble with and Calder thinks you might me the one to help them catch their latest mark.”
