“Hi,” she said, beaming at me, her eyes flashing with excitement.

“Hi, yourself.” I pulled her against me, nuzzling her hair and soaking up her intoxicating scent of peach and vanilla. Everything inside of me wanted her to stay by my side for the rest of the night.

“I’ve missed you.” I rubbed her back as I spoke.

“I guess what they say about distance making the heart grow fonder is true. Plus, I was worried. When you called last week, you didn’t sound so good.”

I broke our embrace and squeezed her shoulders. “As I mentioned on the phone, this trip was a lot harder for multiple reasons.” It was tough to let my guard down, but I was ready to make a change. I just needed to know if she was too.

She took my hand, concern in her gaze. “Are you able to tell me about it?”

“Some, but first, would you like something to drink? I have your favorite, Jack and Coke.” I offered her a warm smile.

“That sounds great, thanks.”

I extended my hand to her. “Come on, I’ll show you around.”

She slipped hers in mine. “You didn’t mention that you lived in a penthouse. The building is stunning.”

I led her to the living room, where I’d turned on the gas fireplace earlier. “It’s a nice place. Plus, when I’m gone, no one really notices. It’s not like my mail stacks up or the grass grows too high. One of the reasons I wanted to live here was the low maintenance since I travel so much.”

“That makes sense.”

She looked around the living area, eyeing the pictures I had on the wall of Dope, Riley, Kip, and me. Something similar to sadness flashed in her expression as she stood before the images. She touched Kip’s red jacket, then jerked her hand away. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to fingerprint the glass.”

I wasn’t sure what was going on in that beautiful mind of hers, but I didn’t want to pry.

“We’ve all been friends for years. Riley is newer to the bar and group, but she’s also a part of the Safe Horizon Society.”

“Oh, I didn’t realize she was a part of it too. I mean not that it was any of my business, but I swear I won’t breathe a word to anyone, Sebastian.”

“I trust you.”

She looked at me quizzically. “How? How do you know that I’m not some horrible person who does terrible things? You have a double life that only a handful of people are aware of. What makes you think I’m any different?”

I gently turned her toward me and placed my finger under her chin. “Gut instincts. I’m rarely wrong about someone, Ella. When you were tailing me the night we were moving Sarah, I didn’t miss the look in your eyes, the longing to help even if it meant risking your life. The rest of the details are just fun things I’ll learn about you on the way.”

Her gaze softened as she nodded and before I could talk myself out of it, I leaned down and pressed my lips to hers. Warmth flooded my body as my cock lengthened. She parted her lips, and I slipped my tongue into her mouth, tasting her. She kissed me with such tenderness it caught me off guard. I wasn’t expecting her response to say so much without uttering a word.

I threaded my fingers through her long hair. A soft moan escaped her as she slipped her arms around my waist. Feeling her body against mine was heaven after missing her over the last few weeks.

Finally, I pulled away and placed a light kiss on her forehead. “I’ll show you the rest of the house, then get you a drink.”

She gave me a sweet smile. “That sounds nice.”

Her mouth parted in awe as she walked through the penthouse with large windows that overlooked the city and sported a breathtaking view of Mount Hood. I showed her the guest bathroom, additional bedroom, and kitchen.

“There’s a loft?” she asked, glancing up.

“My office. Come on.” I started up the stairs, holding her hand as we climbed. “I like the view here too.” I pointed out the window at a different angle of the mountain.

“It has snow on it already. I wonder if it will be a good ski season.”

I turned to her. “Do you ski?”

“No, but I’ve always wanted to.”

“I’ll have to take you to the ski lodge for a long weekend.” I was testing the waters to see if she would want to spend that time alone with me. In bed and naked, preferably, but I wouldn’t admit it to her yet.
