“Why aren’t you inside of me right now?” Her gaze searched mine, and I pressed my forehead against hers as my thumb stroked her soft cheek.

“Because when I’m inside you, I’ll claim you. There’s no going back, Ella. I have to make sure that your heart and not just your body is ready and willing.”

With a sigh of contentment, she kissed me and confirmed I’d made the right call.

I flashed her a wicked little grin. “Until then, how many orgasms have you had in one evening?”

Her brows shot up. “Two,” she whispered.

Surprised, I arched a brow at her. “Any man who wouldn’t make you come all night long isn’t worthy of you.”

I lowered my mouth to hers, then nipped along her jaw and to her ear. “Let me take care of you tonight.”

“But what about you, Sebastian?” Her hand moved down my side and rested on my lower back.

“Next time, baby. Next time.”

Chapter 35

Ella

At six the following morning, I returned home and flopped down in the middle of my bed with a silly smile on my face. I squealed like a little girl, then burst into giggles. Shit, it felt nice to laugh. It had been too long since I’d been genuinely happy. With Dad’s illness and Death’s obsession, life had lost its allure. Sebastian was a reminder that good people and things still existed.

When Sebastian had invited me over, I hadn’t planned on spending the night, but when the first hints of the sunrise appeared, I realized it was already morning. The edges of the sky were tinged with the faintest whispers of golden light. Streaks of pink and orange bled into the fabric of the new day as I lay tangled in Sebastian’s embrace. Nothing had ever felt so right. Moments later, wariness and fear slithered into my thoughts. What would Death do if he learned I’d spent the night with Sebastian? I shook my head. I had managed to keep Sebastian a secret from Death and vice versa. I could do this.

While stretching, I relished in the afterthoughts of Sebastian’s attention, ignoring the fact that I had to get ready for work. I had been thoroughly ravished and worshipped. No man had ever taken care of me the way he had. After I was sure that I couldn’t have any more orgasms, he wrapped me in his arms, and we dozed off. It was heaven—sheer bliss. Unlike the fucked-up situation I’d landed myself in with Death, I could talk to Cami about Sebastian. Would I ever find our relationship boring in comparison? I seriously doubted it since he had a secret life he couldn’t share with many people. That alone was sexy as hell.

Maybe I was a hormonal mush puddle, but I was definitely falling for Sebastian. Hard. He was the extreme opposite of Death. Even I realized that my dance in the darkness with Death could only last so long. The cops were hot on Death’s heels, and I couldn’t watch him fall. Once he did, though, my heart might break. At the same time, I would be free of him.

My cell buzzed with an incoming message, and I patted my hand on the bed until I located it. Sebastian’s name lit up the screen, and my stomach somersaulted with excitement.

Sebastian:

I can still taste you in my mouth. I miss you already. Stop by the club tonight?

I decided to make the best of my evenings and spend them with Sebastian. If I wasn’t home, Death couldn’t invite himself over. I wasn’t ready to see him yet.

Me:

What time?

Sebastian:

I’ll try to take a break around eight if that works for you.

Me:

I’ll see you then.

I sent him multiple kiss emojis, my thighs clenching with the reminder of his skilled mouth between my legs. My entire body tingled with anticipation of his touch. Even though I offered to get him off, he’d refused. A part of me wondered if he was a glutton for punishment. Being turned on but denying himself must have been difficult.

Rolling over on my stomach, I texted Cami.

Me:

I spent the night with Sebastian. I just got home.

Cami sent me a multitude of mind-blown emojis, along with water, peaches, and eggplant. I snickered.
