From the corner of my eye, I see her nibble on her bottom lip.

“One more thing,” she says, her focus on the hamster cage. “Could you warn me before you bring a woman home? I’d rather not see or hear any of that.”

“Where would you go?” I ask, curious and turn the radio on low. Somehow, we managed to drive for an hour with no music. A first for me.

She nibbles more on her lip. “My room, I guess. It’s a loft, right? On the third floor?”

“It is. It’s also directly above my bedroom.”

“Oh.” She grips the cage with both hands.

“I don’t sleep with girls in my bedroom, though. You’d be fine.” I smirk, but it feels wrong. In fact, this whole conversation feels wrong. I’ve never had stage fright before, but I feel with Sadie in my house, I might.

“You don’t sleep with women at your house?” She sounds confused.

“I do. Just not in my bedroom.”

She gets quiet, thinking that over. That line forms between her brows again. “Definitely give me a warning before you do that. Please. I still have a few friends in Honeycomb. I could maybe stay with one of them for a night.”

She really is too much. “I can refrain from sex for the two weeks that you’re at my house.”

“I appreciate that, but you shouldn’t have to because of me.”

“You could always watch or participate.”

Her lip curls with disgust.

I laugh. “Bad joke.”

She doesn’t look reassured, with her shoulders hiked up near her ears again.

“I promise, it’s fine. We’ll have fun. I’ve gone without sex for two weeks before. I think.”

“This is a bad idea. I’ll just stay with?—”

I touch her dainty wrist. “I want you to stay. It’ll be a good thing for both of us.”

“How will it be a good thing for you?”

“I get to practice the art of restraint. And bond with a woman on a platonic level. We’ll roast marshmallows and watch murder.”

Her face brightens. “For real?”

The hope in her eyes is too much to deny. “You can show me the good crime shows to watch. I may become addicted myself.”

She rolls her eyes. “You won’t. Your only addiction is to sex.”

Which reminds me. “I have a request, too.”

“I’m listening.”

“Don’t walk around in your towel or without a bra under your t-shirt when I’m around.”

Her features scrunch with obvious confusion.

Because of last night, I’m sure. We slept together. I was nude. I changed her and saw her naked. We were very relaxed, but if I let my guard down, I might slip up and try to kiss her again. For some reason, I feel like if I did, she wouldn’t turn away this time.

“Too much of a temptation for you?” she teases, clueless to how right she is.
