I spread her thighs wide and crawl between her legs. “My beautiful princess, who is tough as nails.”

She fists the comforter and rotates her hips. Seeing her desperate for my touch pleases me more than she can ever know.

After dropping her knees to the mattress, I taste her desire and hum in appreciation. “You taste so good. So wet and eager for my touch.”

“Always.” Her voice is raspy as she arches her hips upward.

“Don’t.” I rest my hand on her inner thigh. “Let me do all the work.”

She doesn’t speak as I tease and explore her sex, from her tight nub to her soaked slit. With each lick, her desire coats my tongue until her thighs are shaking.

“Do you want more?” I ask, even though I know the answer.

“Yes, please.” I insert two fingers into her heat and watch her writhe in pleasure as I bring her to orgasm.

Now this. This I can do every day for the rest of my life.

Chapter Forty-Nine

Three Weeks Later

Harbor

By the time I pull onto the off-ramp for Meadow Bay, I’m about to climb out of my skin. Between recovering from my injuries, dealing with insurance and vehicle repairs, helping Mr. Burke with preparation for the transition of his home base to a new location, and packing up my condo, I haven’t been back home.

I tap my fingertips on the steering wheel. But it was all worth it. The sun is shining, and white puff clouds are lazily floating above. If I opened my windows, the birds would probably be singing to pave my way home.

Home. I bite my bottom lip but can’t stop the smile from breaking across my face. In 10 minutes, I’m going to be home. My home with Cole. I can’t wait. Not even hours of unpacking can dampen my excitement. Today starts my new life.

I pass by the city limit sign and sigh. When I left Meadow Bay for college, I always anticipated coming back. But a part of me never believed it would happen this way. Okay, none of me believed it would happen this way. Or that my dream job would follow me home so I could have the best of both worlds.

Once I get settled in, I’ll go see Mom and Dad, but they can wait. I need to see Cole and smother him with kisses. Or have him smother me with kisses.

He got away a few times to see me, but most of that time was spent packing boxes and loading my possession into a moving truck.

After I stop at the 4-way stop, Layla waves at me from the park. I can’t stop the laughter from filling the interior of my car. There she is with Gertrude and those wayward ducklings. I shake my head and yell at her out the window. I was right; the birds are singing.

I try to imagine my future without her and my family in it every day and I can’t. This is where I belong.

Later, I pull into Cole’s driveway and shiver as he bounds down the stairs wearing a pair of sweats and a skintight T-shirt. The man is delicious without even trying.

Before I can get my seatbelt off, he has the door open and leans against the frame. “Pip, I’ve missed you. Now hurry up and get out of the car before I give our neighbors the shock of their lives.”

“We can’t have that.” The seatbelt snaps back into its holder, and I slide out. “Your parents will never hear the end of it, and we’ve already established they know too much.”

“Too slow.” He grins and wraps his arms around me, kissing me until my toes curl. The slow and thorough devouring of my mouth is quickly replaced with an intensity that has my hands in his hair and my panties drenched. I don’t think I’ll ever get used to the connection we have. And I hope I don’t.

He rocks into me, and I suck his bottom lip into my mouth. I want to drop my pants right here and have a quicky. Slow down. It’s broad daylight. I pull back and glance around. Only to find his mom standing on the porch.

“Hello, Harbor.” She waves while clutching the door with a death grip. “I wanted to say welcome home, but I’m not about to come over and interrupt.” Her cheeks are a bright pink, but the shade can’t be as bright as mine.

“Hello, Ann Marie.” I sheepishly wave back while putting more distance between Cole and me.

“Not happening.” He grabs my hips and pulls me back. “I’ve missed you, and I don’t care who knows that.”

“Clearly.” I giggle as his erection presses against my belly.

“I’ll come over and see you this afternoon.”
