“I can pick up the tab.”

“I know, but I don’t want you to. This was my idea.”

“It’s a good deed.”

“But my idea. I’ll pay for it.”

“Even if you pay for what we’re buying, good luck trying to get Zane and Aldric to take your money.”

“I don’t need to get their permission to send money to them.”

“And you don’t think they’ll send it right back?”

She waved it off. “Let’s worry about that later.” She loaded in more marker sets. “We still need backpacks. I hate choosing those. I think we should make them all the same so no one will be jealous of anyone else. But Grandma Moretti always says that makes it seem like prison distribution.”

“I think we should make them all the same because it’s efficient.”

“It’s efficient?”

“So we don’t have to spend time wondering which ones look better, because I’ll be no help at that.”

She laughed softly. “Same design it is. I think something from Frozen would be good for the girls,” she said as they made their way to the next aisle.

“Why not Captain Marvel or Wonder Woman?”

“Because we can only pick one.” She stuck her hands on her hips and stared at the backpacks of assorted colors and designs.

They sighed at the same time.

Clary turned to him and chuckled. “I’ll pick one for the girls. You pick for the boys.”

“Wait. There are a lot more characters to choose from for the guys.”

“I have tons to choose from, too. There’s this pony thing. What’s this? Fairy?” She strolled down the aisle. “I don’t think we can get them all in one design. I’ll need to speak with a store employee and see if there are more in the back somewhere.”

Seth blew out a breath at the assortment of superheroes. It turned out that choosing just one wasn’t easy. “Let’s just ask which is the most popular.”

“They’ll tell you they all are.”

“You’ve tried that before.”

“Yup.”

Seth pointed to one with Iron Man. “That one.”

“Just like that?”

He nodded. It reminded him of what she’d said when he’d given her a tour of Movement.

Clary scanned the pink, purple, and light blue bags. She bit down on her lips.

“Why did we pick this item for our list?”

After making a list of everything they had to buy, they’d gone around the table to pick one item at a time.

“Because between this and stickers, this is infinitely better.” She pointed at Captain Marvel. “This.” She pulled her finger back and winced.

“Okay. That,” Seth said.
