Seth knew he shouldn’t, but he couldn’t help himself. Once he was back in his room, he logged into the website that tracked the location of Clary’s pendant to check on her location. He had assumed she was heading to Thailand, so it was weird for the plane to turn around.

Initially, he’d hoped that Clary had changed her mind and was coming back to him.

But that hope only lasted for a second. He already knew she wouldn’t do that, not when she couldn’t prove Holly a liar.

Then the location stopped in L.A.

Seth immediately knew what was going on. He stepped out of his room and nearly tripped over Elton, who was sitting outside his door. “I don’t have time.”

Elton got up and hurried along beside him. “Where are you going?”

“L.A.”

“Why?”

“Clary’s there. I think she’s going to check on the well.”

Elton grabbed Seth’s arm. “If Holly’s people are watching—”

“I don’t care who she has watching me.”

Elton gave Seth’s arm a rough jerk when they got to the second floor. “I’m trying to help you. Will you just calm down? She’s not on her own.”

“I told you she wouldn’t tell anyone.”

“So what? She parachuted down from the plane?” Elton rolled his eyes. “She has everyone wrapped around her little finger.” He held his hands up when Seth glared at him. “I’m just trying to say that I think she could easily convince Uncle David to do anything for her. The old man came running over when he saw she was crying.”

Seth finally stopped walking. “Why was she crying?”

“Not because of me.”

“I didn’t say it was.”

Elton shot him a bored glare. “Sure.” He sighed heavily. “I don’t believe Oliver hurt Winnie.”

“Neither do I.”

“And Holly’s a pathological liar.”

Seth nodded. “But if we lose the bet, the cost is too high.”

“I’m not a lawyer, but I’ve been thinking. Holly’s crazy. She’s been committed for a decade.”

“No she hasn’t. Not officially. She’s just in a wellness home, not a mental hospital.”

“But we know.”

“On paper, she’s in a wellness home.”

“Fine. And there’s something about the chain of evidence, right? She’s been keeping whatever evidence she has for this long. How do we know she didn’t contaminate or even manufacture the evidence?”

Zane’s door opened. “That really depends on the evidence.”

“Even if she has the murder weapon, even if she has Oliver’s DNA on the murder weapon, it’s been so long.”

“I have two concerns.” Zane folded his arms over his chest. “One: if her evidence is a video recording. That would be irrefutable.”
