Seth swallowed a sigh and dropped his hand. “Anything else happen at the mansion?”

“Nope. Except that I ran out of there.”

“Why?”

“She looked like she was going to throw her shoe at me, so …” She laughed. “Don’t worry. It always lands near me, never on me. But I decided I didn’t want today to be the first time she ever hit her target.” She touched her cheek again. “Didn’t expect to get hit here.”

“I’m going to kill that guy.”

“No, you’re not.” Her eyes narrowed. “Promise you won’t do anything stupid.”

He ran his tongue under his teeth.

“Or I’ll move back to the mansion.”

His brows rose. “You’re threatening me?”

“Yeah.”

He stared at her for a moment.

“So? Did it work?”

“I won’t kill that guy.”

She nodded slowly. “So how much will your guys cost me?”

“Christmas Eve, just you and me. No one else.”

She opened her mouth. “But your brothers? Andrea? She’s alone this Christmas, and …” She bit down on her bottom lip.

“We don’t celebrate Christmas.”

“Really? Then what do you guys do?”

He shrugged. “Whatever we do on our days off.”

“Huh. I thought I could cook …” Clary paused. “Okay. If that’s what you want, then yes.”

He sighed as he thought about what she said. He supposed it’d be nice to have his brothers around. They did have lots of fun putting up the Christmas tree, and it was rare that all of them were actually home.

Plus, it seemed rather mean to kick Oliver out of the apartment for the day.

“There won’t be time to get a turkey, right?”

Clary arched a brow. “Well, chicken would do fine, too. Does it matter if we actually have a turkey?”

“I guess not.”

Seth took out his phone again.

“Why is Ron texting you?”

“He’s at the apartment Tamara rented. I’m supposed to meet him there.”

“Oh. I’m sorry. I should be the one handling this.”

“I’m just trying my luck.” Seth checked the messages. They were a series of photos. “He can wait.”
