“Are you offering to pay me?”

“I’ll pay you to leave.”

Ron tutted disapprovingly. “Clary wouldn’t appreciate that.” He turned to Seth. “Does Clary know that Andrea and I are charging everything to the room? All our meals at the hotel, all gets automatically charged to the room.”

“If Clary doesn’t want to pay, you can probably sell your kidney or something.”

Ron shot him a glare.

“Or, you can start convincing Andrea to go home. If you can accomplish that, I’m sure her father would gladly pay the bill for you.”

“Her father? Who’s her … Wait. Lowe. Her father’s the police commissioner?”

“Yeah.”

“Huh.”

Seth stared at Ron as he opened the passenger-side door. “I’m not going to EB Co.”

Ron shut the door and leveled a bored glare at him.

Seth sighed. “Get in.”

“Didn’t she just come back from your office?”

Clary looked toward the open door when she heard Andrea’s voice.

“Do you miss her that much?”

“Yes.”

Clary laughed once when she heard Seth.

“But that’s not why I’m here,” Seth continued.

“Hi,” she said when he appeared in the doorway, looking all suave in his suit. “What are you doing here? Did I leave something in your office?”

His chest rose as he strode in.

“What happened?”

“I just came from the apartment Ressler was probably staying in.” Seth sat on the couch. “Ron found some textbooks on electrical engineering.”

“Okay ...” Clary dragged out the second syllable.

“I can’t be sure, but I suspect he was trying to direct our attention to the building.”

“As in this building?” Clary said. “You think he’s trying to break in here?”

“I think he’s trying to make us think that he’s breaking in here.”

Clary’s brows drew together, and she stared back at him for two full seconds before blinking. “So you don’t think he’s coming here.”

Seth shrugged. “I’m not a criminal mastermind or a psychology professor,” he said. “I’m not even a detective, but the one from New York says Ressler’s smart.”

Clary nodded. “He definitely knows how the human psyche works. He easily charms lots of people.”
