“I wouldn’t know unless you tell me what you’re getting me.”

“Do you know what Gelish nails are?”

“Yes, my mom gets them all the time.”

“Stick-on Gelish nails.” Clary wriggled her fingers. “Mine are stick-ons.”

“What?” Andrea took Clary’s hand and turned it this way and that.

“Ouch. Ouch.”

“Sorry.” Andrea released her hand. “But that’s such a boring color.”

“I got you the same.”

“Oh.”

Clary laughed. “And a lot more.” She entered her YouTube application and showed Andrea an instructional video. “I didn’t think you’d really enjoy a manicure session. You’d have to sit and do nothing for over an hour while they work on your hands.”

“Huh.”

“Especially if you do some additional treatment and they wrap your arms up. I hate just staring into space or at whatever their TV is playing.”

“That does sound boring.”

“It is. At least I can sleep while I’m getting a facial,” Clary said.

“Oh, this one is so cute.” Andrea showed Clary the video. “Did you get me this?”

“You’ll have to find out tomorrow when the package gets here. You get to pick one, then we’ll wrap the rest and put it under the tree. So you’ll have something to unwrap on Christmas morning.”

Andrea frowned at her. “Feels silly and pointless.”

“I’m sure you don’t want to just sit around while everyone else open their presents.”

“You got presents for his brothers too?”

“Yeah.” She ran her hand through her hair. “I thought my hair might turn white overnight.” She’d scoured the Internet for hours, searching for what she hoped were appropriate presents for Seth and his brothers. She didn’t really know them well enough, but she hoped they would like whatever she got.

“So what did you get for Seth?”

“Frivolous things.”

Once the elevator door opened, Clary strode out.

Sitting on Andrea’s brown desk was the package she’d ordered from Etsy. Clary grabbed the rectangular package and half jogged into the room.

“What’s inside?”

“Christmas tree decorations.”

Andrea shot her a deadpan look. “You’ve got to be kidding. Don’t you have enough of those?”

“This is different.” Clary ripped apart the package and opened the box, revealing white Christmas baubles. Each of the baubles was decorated with a name.

Andrea leaned forward. “I see my name.”

All the Andersons, Andrea, and Clary each had one.
