“He did. She confessed that part to Murphy.”

“Then she paid for six months’ rent in cash.”

Andrea’s eyes bugged.

“You said rent was expensive.”

“It is.” Andrea leaned against the door frame. “She’s been working for Edward Eolenfeld for a long time, though. She probably has been earning a lot of money for a really long time.”

“Maybe.” Clary drummed her fingers against the desk. “Follow the money ...” She glanced over at Andrea. “Let’s pull the records for everything she charged to her card.”

“I’m not a detective anymore, but I—”

“The business card. We have the right to access those, right?”

“Yes. Yes, we do.”

Now that the accounts were refunded and everything else at work had been set in motion, perhaps it was time she did something about Ressler.

Seth checked the time on his watch as he passed Andrea’s empty desk. It was nearly seven, but he didn’t think she would leave before he got there. When he opened the door to Clary’s office, he found both of them huddled on the couch, over some documents on the coffee table. “Still working?”

They looked up at him.

Andrea frowned. “Did you knock?”

“You weren’t at your desk. I thought something might be wrong.”

Clary gave Andrea a light smack on the arm. “We’re just going through the charges Tamara made to her business card.”

Seth strode over. “Found anything?”

“Nothing much. Mainly food and gas.”

“Except for these few charges at a hardware store,” Andrea said. She took a picture with her phone, then turned the paper toward Seth when he sat next to Clary. “I’ll send it to Murphy and see if he can find out what she bought.”

Seth pulled the paper closer. Besides one charge of over two hundred dollars, the rest of the charges were relatively small, mostly around fifty dollars. “These could be anything. She could be buying paint for her apartment.”

Clary put a hand on his leg. “I think she’d hire someone to do that. I would. Mr. E gave me a relocation fee for me to use for whatever I needed. I thought I’d share with Tamara, and she said Mr. E gave her one too.”

Andrea tutted. “And you didn’t tell me? She probably just used that to pay for the six-month rent.”

“And how much would that be?” Clary asked.

“Over twenty thousand.”

Clary shook her head. “Mr. E offered me ten. I’m not sure how much he offered to Tamara.”

Andrea gave Clary a slap on the leg. “You should relocate every now and then. Great bonus.”

She leaned over. “He offered me thirty at first.”

Andrea gasped. “Next time, take it and we’ll split.”

“She’s not relocating anywhere,” Seth said and received a pointed look from Andrea.

“Is that so?” Andrea jabbed a finger in his direction. “Sign of an over-possessive boyfriend. Beware.”
