“Why?” he asked, but released her anyway.

“I’m going to take a bath, change, and prepare mentally to deal with Elton and Aldric.”

He grabbed her hand when she stood, and she turned back to him. “About Aldric …”

“He has a gun too?”

Seth laughed and shook his head. Getting to his feet, he took a step closer to her. “Just … don’t get too friendly with him.”

Clary’s eyes narrowed. “Does this have something to do with the six-months thing he was talking about?”

“We were sick of bumping into strange women in the corridor or anywhere else in the building.”

“So now I’m the only strange woman your brothers will run into.”

“It was always a different woman. And while Aldric can be charming when he wants to, once his mood changes, he …”

“Can be way too direct?”

Seth gave her a wry smile. “I’m sorry. He …”

“You have to decide if you want to apologize for him or warn me about him.”

“Warn you about him.”

“So you’re afraid he’ll try and charm me?” She chuckled. “I seriously doubt that’s going to happen. He’s made it clear he doesn’t like me.”

Seth blew out a breath.

“I’m okay,” she said. “Don’t worry about it.” Then she tipped her head to the side as her gaze roamed across his face. “I never thought you’d be a jealous sort of boyfriend.”

Neither had he. Then again, he’d never seen himself as anyone’s boyfriend before. “If I were really jealous, I would’ve kicked all of them out. I prepared this surprise for you.”

Her jaw dropped slightly as she blinked. “I’m sorry, Seth. I’m so inconsiderate. I just thought it’d be more fun if everyone did this together.” She paused. “I thought … it’d be nice for you to have some new Christmas memories with your brothers.”

“You just want everyone to be happy. I get it.”

She licked her lips. “I want you to be happy, Seth. I didn’t mean to upset you.”

“I’m not upset.”

She nodded slowly. “The stitches come out tomorrow. Once they’re out, I’ll cook something for you. Just you and me, okay?”

“I’d love that.”

She grinned.

“My request still stands, though.”

Her brows twitched. “Don’t get too friendly with Aldric? Is my presence going to be a problem?”

Only if that brother of his couldn’t control himself. It seemed like Aldric had to hit on every woman he came across. It was as if he was on a quest, and he’d always returned home victorious.

Which was why the rest of them had gotten together to vote that Aldric couldn’t bring a woman home unless he’d been seeing the same person for six months.

Thus far, no one had made it.

“Okay.” She tipped her head to the side as she looked right at him. “I like your eyes just the way they are.”
