Rylan inhaled sharply, his fingers digging into my thighs as I kissed my across his throat to the other side then up to his right ear. I could feel his hardness below me, teasing me as I concentrated on his neck. My mouth began to water, and I worried I wouldn’t be able to resist the desire to mark him.

I moaned against his ear, wanting to show him what he did to me. Rylan pulled my hips closer, his cock teasing my entrance as I continued to explore. I nipped at his ears, enjoying the hitch in his breathing when I swept my hands through his hair and down to his shoulders. My mouth moved up over his jaw to his lips, where I stopped, hovering over them tantalizingly close but not close enough.

We froze, our mouths millimeters apart. A challenge to see who would break first. Heat pulsed through my veins the longer we remained pressed against each other. My body was revving up into an inferno that I was on the verge of jumping into. I wanted him so badly that my inner thighs quivered in anticipation.

This was the calm before the storm. I could feel it brewing in Rylan just like the fire burning inside of me.

Were we ready?

Did we dare?

Chapter Fifteen

Rylan

I was losing control. Pearl’s arousal scented the air, reminding me of when she’d gone into heat two weeks ago. I was instantly hard. Instantly primed to do whatever she would let me do, and judging by her enthusiasm, she was ready for anything.

Was this the right time? Was there ever going to be a better one?

Those two questions swirled through my thoughts as I tried to decide what the right thing. The Moon Spirit alerted me to Pearl’s struggles then lectured me about how long I was taking. I understood that completing the mating would give me access to all of my alpha abilities, but I didn’t want that to be the reason we did it.

‘It’s not,’ my wolf assured me gruffly. ‘She is our mate. We would die for her. We love her.’

The word love echoed through my mind like a gong. I did love her. I’d loved Pearl since we were kids. Even when she hated me, I loved her. I left the pack because I loved her. Everything that I’d done, past and present, was because of my love for her. She was the rock that kept me grounded when darkness threatened to tear me away from everything I knew and loved. She was the only one who could pierce that darkness and banish it for good.

Why was I questioning completing the mating? It was the most natural thing between two wolves.

In a split second, I’d made my decision and prayed that Pearl had made the same one. I closed the gap between our lips. I kissed her with everything I had, pouring every ounce of want, need, desire, and love into each movement. My tongue plundered her mouth; my teeth nipped at her soft lips. I drank in every sound she made, every panting gasp of pleasure. I breathed it in. I breathed her in.

Her nails dug into my shoulders, making my cock throb. I needed to be inside her. The urge was so strong that I was having trouble thinking straight. I wanted to roll until Pearl was beneath me then plunge into her, needing to feel her around me.

‘Not here,’ my wolf interrupted.

I growled at him, annoyed, but knew that he had a point. I’d have her anywhere, but she deserved better than the dirt beside a stream.

With effort, I tried to think of a place I could take her. Where no one would interrupt us.

‘Here will do,’ a voice I recognized as the Moon Spirit said, followed by images of a small cabin not far from here. A map appeared, giving me directions. I sent a silent thank you to the white wolf and then returned my attention to my mate.

Pearl’s hips rocked against me, my cock sliding through her slick folds. I bit my lip, determined to get her to the cabin and out of the open.

“Do you trust me?” I asked, moving my hands upward so I could grip her hips.

“Yes.” She pulled back so I could see her hazy eyes and well-kissed lips.

“Good.”

I stood up, easily lifting Pearl with me. I turned in the direction of the cabin and started to run. I stumbled a couple times when her lips caressed my jawline and again when her hand slipped between us to grasp me.

I growled, loving every second of the teasing while also cursing the fact that I had to run. The cabin appeared between a couple of trees; moonlight streamed through the branches, bathing the area in soft white light that almost sparkled.

I didn’t slow down until I was on the small porch, barely able to turn the doorknob without crashing right through it. Glancing around, I found it to be a well-furnished hunting cabin with a bed big enough for two. A fireplace was opposite it, and a small kitchenette took up the far corner. It was cozy and absolutely perfect.

I headed straight for the bed, placing Pearl on the beautiful quilt before following. My hips nestled between her legs, her junction teasing me to the point that I had to fist the blanket to keep from thrusting into her.

“Shhh,” Pearl cooed, cupping my face and looking up at me.

Her eyes were dark pools that could pierce the darkness lurking in my soul. Her silver-white hair fanned out around her head, the moonlight adding a glow that made her look like some sort of angel.
