“I wouldn’t put it past her,” Duke rolled his eyes.

“Help yourself to whatever is in the kitchen you want, brother,” Blithe yawned.

Chapter Seven

Liam Moonscale, the First Mate of the New Hemlock Wolf Pack

Bobby squeezed the bridge of his nose as Trista power-talked her way through an explanation none of us understood. Apparently, she had something to apologize for and Scott now had a ‘dangerous’ dog that attacked her. Only there wasn’t a bite or bruise on her. Sure, Alphas healed quicker than omegas, but if the dog was dangerous or vicious, there’d be something. Travis started talking too and I glanced at my Alpha, rubbing the bridge of his nose he healed up from pretty quickly.”

“Both of you shut the fuck up!” I shouted, pointing to the rocking chairs on the porch. “Sit and shut up! Seriously!”

“Do you all hate us?” Trista asked, hands on her hips.

“Mil--- Trista, please sit down,” Bobby said, dropping his hand to his side. “I have kids to take care of. We have a whole village to take care of. If this is some social media bs stunt I swear I’ll kick every ass involved.”

The twins sat down and I started to go back inside to check on the kids. Stariel was having lunch and Lucas was napping, but leaving them alone inside even for the five minutes made something inside me ache. My phone sounded off in my pocket.

“That’ll be Scott telling us what these idiots did now,” Bobby sighed.

“We’re not idiots!” Travis protested, but Bobby ignored him as I answered the call from Blithe.

“They’re here. Do you know what they did?” I asked, stepping inside.

Baby Lucas was still asleep in his living room bassinet and Stariel was focused on eating his broccoli because I promised him an ice pop if he ate all his veggies.

“No clue,” Blithe said. “So, Scott’s mate showed up as a pit hound and when he shifted he was covered in blood.”

“Fucking hell,” I swore under my breath and winced remembering the little ears always listening in on me.

I walked into the hallway before Stariel could question why I said the dirty words.

“It’s his blood, but he didn’t smell wounded. So whatever happened, he healed up from it pretty quickly.”

“Does he know who he is?” I asked.

“I guess so. He didn’t say much. He was a dog for most of it. Cord wanted me to call you.”

“Go ask who he is. If he can’t give you a name call me back ASAP. I’ll call Dara and Sam. We may need Sam’s old detective connections to solve this damn problem.”

“You think he’s wanted or something?” Blithe asked, lowering his voice.

“I don’t think anything except I’m trying to find out what your siblings did. Find out that information for me, okay? I don’t want to say anything in case I’m wrong, but if I’m right we gotta hurry. Don’t waste a single minute, okay? Do it for Scott.”

“I gotcha,” Blithe said and ended the call.

Chapter Eight

Scott

My throat burnt as I pressed the button on the blender to start the bloodshakes. I hadn’t thought to grab any of the emergency blood pouches from the fridge when I fled. My mate walked up behind me and wrapped his arms around me. I leaned back against him, reveling in his warm, strong body. I should’ve pushed him away to protect my clothes since I didn’t bring extra, but I didn’t want him to stop touching me. If I could never show my face again with my family, I’d have him. I didn’t want to lose my parents, Duke, and Blithe, but I couldn’t stop them from choosing a side that might not be mine.

“I never did get your name,” I said, pushing the thoughts of what might happen later away for now.

“I have to tell you something,” my mate whispered.

“Did someone hurt you? Are they gonna try again? I swear I’ll eat them – I’ll take every ounce of blood out of them. I’m done with bullies and brutes.”

He chuckled and kissed the top of my head. My mate towered over me, but he didn’t feel like a giant looming in the distance. He was here and close and I’d do anything to keep him with me. Not everyone gets to meet their true-mate. I had nearly resigned myself to never meeting him. I had my magic and my baking and a few good friends and I would make do, but now that he was here I was never letting him go again.
