“Should I get it for you?” I asked him.

“Probably. They’re buzzy on the pack link as you probably hear too, but I’ve been ignoring them,” Scott yawned.

Leaning over him I grabbed the phone and saw only one word of the text waiting on his phone’s home screen: Hatching.

“Are you coming or not? This egg is scratching and will soon be hatching! It’s from Blithe,” Scott laughed. “I bet Duke can’t even hold his phone steady right now.”

“That’ll be me when you go into labor,” I laughed.

“We still need to get you a new phone,” Scott pointed out.

“Eventually. I like no one being able to text me. They’ll have to send a carrier pigeon or something if they want to get ahold of me.”

“Will you get me something to wear?” Scott yawned, forcing himself upright. “I gotta pee. I think someone rolled over on my bladder.”

“Anything for you,” I said and stole a kiss before helping him out of bed.

Chapter Twenty-Nine

Scott

There was a crowd around Duke and Blithe’s house.

“Is everyone here for the egg?” I whispered to Terrick and squeezed his hand.

“Which one of them will I have to eat first?” my wolf sounded off in my thoughts.

None of them. At least I prayed to Juda and Frost and all their little babies the answer would be none of them.

Terrick shouldered his way through the throngs of people until Dara spotted us from the front of the crowd.

“PREGNANT CARRIER COMING THROUGH PART THE WAY!” his Alpha mate, Sam, bellowed a second later after Dara whispered something to him.

The crowd parted and I held onto Terrick’s hand for dear life as all their eyes fell on us.

“Come on,” Liam waved to us from the porch. “They’ve been waiting on you two.”

“Sorry to keep you waiting,” I said.

“Not me. I’m just guarding the door. You know how folks like to watch hatching eggs and you know how Duke’s been. No one’s getting in there unless they’re on the list and you two were more or less the whole list. Cade’s in the living room as another guard. At least I think he’s there as another guard. I don’t know anymore,” Liam laughed. “Duke was talking so fast I think some of his words flew off before they reached my ears.”

“Thanks, Liam,” Terrick nodded as he led me inside the house.

We didn’t stop to talk to Cade Moonscale who was scrolling his phone so intently one would’ve thought all the secrets of the universe were pouring down his screen like the end credits of a movie.

“It’s unlocked!” Duke called out seconds before I turned the knob to open the basement door.

“He sounds anxious,” Terrick whispered to me.

“Maybe he’s just excited,” I whispered back to him as we started down the steps into the basement witch room.

For a second all I could do was take in the sight. Duke and Syre sat on either side of the nest. Someone, probably Duke, had piled blankets and pillows all around the egg as if they were afraid the baby would just straight up fall out of it. Blithe and Cord sat nearby. Blithe held both of his kittens in one hand as they lay curled up together in a little ball.

“Oof!” Cord said, nodding toward us. “Blithe, help him!”

“I’m okay,” I said, putting one hand on my belly trying to push my center of gravity back up.

“In or out of the nest?” Terrick asked the room.
