“Sure.” I reply, not really hungry anymore. My nerves are dancing on the edge and I don’t know if I could keep it down.

We eat our food quickly and McKenna gets full after half her burger. The waitress drops the check, and I drop cash to cover it plus a nice tip.

I get up from the table, watching my brother look at me, luckily McKenna is short enough she can’t be seen from over there thanks to the booths.

“Kat!” My brother shouts, pushing up out of his booth. I stop, so close. He comes over to me, “I’m glad to see you came back for the reunion. Mom’s been raving about meeting her granddaughter.” He looks down at McKenna, who just looks up at me. “Hello, I’m your uncle.” There’s no way I’m letting my mother anywhere near McKenna.

“Hi.” She says back, then she pulls on my arm. “Who is he?”

“He’s no one sweet pea. No one at all. Let’s go.” I smile at my brother and then turn to see West and the blonde girl staring at us.

I take my daughter and leave through the door, walking by the large windows, right next to their table with my head held high and my daughter right next to me. This is not how I wanted this to happen, but of course George couldn’t help himself. West is back, with a blonde woman, and he just had to rub it in. Outing me about my daughter in front of them.

George knows who the father is, he’s apparently the only one since he never told my parents. They found out when I called to tell them that I gave birth. My mother of course was ashamed of me, and my father was disappointed.

We make it back to the Inn without anyone else popping up and I close our door with a sigh of relief. For a second I thought he’d come chasing after me, asking me about her. But he’s a dumb man, he probably thinks that McKenna is someone else's.

Chapter Fourteen

Westley

Okay it looks like someone lost a glitter war in the gym.

“Under the stars? We had a prom theme like this.” Hilary coos.

There's a large monitor flipping through all our old high school photos and I watch it as it goes through, until I see a picture of Katherine and myself. One I never knew existed. It's of us holding hands walking down the hall with our cap and gowns. When I convinced her to spend the week with me.

“Westley!” George shouts from a table where he has two seats saved next to him.

“Knox!” I turn to see Max and Knox, pointing at each other from across the gym. They move towards each other quickly. Knox looks basically the same, maybe a little more built. I heard he tried to go pro with boxing, but they didn't accept him because he couldn't pass a drug test. Not that it was any of my business.

I escort Hilary into the gym until we reach George. “Knox opened a boxing gym in the city and Max joined the military.” George catches me up on everything he's learned since he's gotten here.

There's music, laughter and drinking all around us. It's just like prom, we're sitting here alone, well plus Hilary, and everyone else is ignoring us.

“Kitty!” Max shouts, drawing my attention to the door. “I haven't seen you since Seattle! Three years ago! How's the kid?”

“She's perfect. She's with a friend.” Katherine replies.

“You got some guy now? Is that the friend?” I eavesdrop so hard on their conversation while staring at Hilary, nodding my head as she talks.

“No, no guy for me. Just a friend.” Katherine replies, my heart fluttering at the sound of her voice.

“But for real, how is Miss McKenna? She's what, four now?”

“Yeah she just turned four earlier this month.” She answers, I can hear the smile in her voice.

“You got a kid? Damn.” Knox chimes in.

“Yup. Sure do. How about you? I'm sure you have several, the way you treat your women.”

“Nah, no kids. Can't have them, sterile as fuck.” Knox replies.

“Too many ‘roids?” I bite my tongue, trying not to laugh.

“Nah, genetics. How about a quick fuck for old times sake?” He asks. He literally asked that, here in the middle of a room full of people with our table within ear shot.

“Ask me after a couple of drinks.” She laughs. My head jerks around to look at her. Her icy blue eyes are staring daggers at me, like she knew I was listening.
