“Are you going to be a wild man like your daddy?” I ask my pregnant belly.

The pregnancy was a surprise. But not really. We were on an island having unprotected sex. Finding out I was pregnant had certainly shocked us both, but, we were happy. We expected to meet our little guy in the next two months.

The sound of the door opening snaps me out of my thoughts. I look over to see Travis stepping into our new home, a tired but contented smile on his face. I can't help but return the smile, my heart fluttering with excitement as I realize just how far we've come. I’ve missed him. He’s only been gone two days, but it felt like two weeks.

It's hard to believe that just a few short months ago, we were caught up during chaos and danger, but now, here we are - happy, safe, and together. I quickly walk to greet him.

"Hey," Travis says, his voice warm as he wraps his arms around me, pressing a soft kiss against my lips. "How's it going?"

“Good,” I smile. “Just getting into the living room boxes. I did the kitchen stuff last night.”

“I’m sorry I had to leave you to do all this.”

“I didn’t do all of it,” I remind him. “You have to work. We have this big house to pay for.”

He chuckles and looks around. "I can't believe this is our home now."

“It's pretty surreal," he admits. "But I wouldn't want to share it with anyone else but you. I love that we’re doing this. I love that we’re taking this next step."

My heart swells with love at his words. "I feel the same way," I say softly, reaching up to brush a stray lock of hair from his forehead. “And I love you.”

“I love you,” he replies.

“How’s my son?” he asks, bending down to kiss my belly.

“He’s been kicking and doing somersaults,” I laugh. “As usual.”

“I got you a little surprise,” he says, talking to my belly still.

“Another postcard for his wall?”

“You know it,” he grins.

We were doing the nursery in planes. Travis has been collecting postcards from all the cities and places he travels to. His new jet is just as nice, if not nicer than the old one. His client list has grown. Everyone wanted the pilot that knew how to crash a plane and survive.

“How was the flight?” I ask casually.

He tosses his overnight bag in a chair and walks to the fridge. “It was uneventful. I stayed in the air and out of the ocean. Any flight that doesn’t end in a violent crash landing is a great flight in my book.”

“That’s really not funny,” I retort. “Go shower and help me finish unpacking.”

I walk back to the living room to finish unpacking the box. I hear footsteps and turn around to see Travis looking at me with a strange expression. “What’s wrong?” I ask.

Travis drops down on one knee, a small velvet box held out in front of him. My breath catches in my throat as I realize what's happening.

“I don’t want to wait another day," he says, his voice a mere whisper. His hands are shaking slightly, betraying his nervousness. "Paige..."

He opens the small velvet box to reveal a stunning diamond ring.

"I love you," Travis continues, his gaze locked on mine. "And I want to spend the rest of my life with you. You have made my life whole. I wanted to ask you to marry me about a week after I met you, but I figured I should wait until you were sure. I know I’m not really in your league. I’m punching way above my weight with you, but I’m going to ask you, anyway. Will you marry me?"

Time seems to freeze and even though I was anticipating this moment ever since we moved in together, I'm still taken aback. My heart swells with joy while tears well in my eyes. "Yes," I whisper, my voice barely above a breath. "Yes, Travis, a thousand times yes."

And then, before I can even comprehend what's happening, Travis is pulling me into his arms, his lips crashing down on mine in a passionate kiss that sets my soul on fire.

His hands cup my face tenderly as he looks me in the eyes. I can feel the tremors of relief and joy coursing through him. I reach out to touch the ring.

“You’ve rendered me speechless,” I admit, pulling away to look at him. "This is one of the happiest moments of my life."

Travis’s eyes glow with love and joy. “That’s only fair. You render me speechless every day.”

He kisses me again. This time, we start to pull each other’s clothes away. All that matters is Travis and his touch. We make love right there amidst the chaos of our new life, our hearts beating as one.

Afterwards, we lay tangled in each other's arms on the bare living room floor. The carpet isn't plush, and the floor underneath it is hard and cold, but I've never felt more comfortable. Travis's chest rises and falls in time with my own, his fingers lazily tracing patterns on my bare skin.

Even though we have just moved in, it already feels like home. Wherever he is, home is.

The End
