“They don’t,” says Leia. “It’s shit, but it’s how it is. Why would you want to involve yourself in their crap, anyway? If I was you, I’d make the most of being Mac’s ol’ lady. He’s gotta support you now.”

“I don’t wanna rely on him for anything. Besides, it’s not for real.”

“He’s treating you like that, telling you what you can and can’t do.” She’s got a point, but I wouldn’t feel right turning this into a battle. Mac did this for me.

Vinn steps from his office with his associate and walks him to the lift. Once he’s gone, Vinn kisses Leia on her cheek and smiles at her fondly. “Good to see you, mogliettina.”

“Did you just call me wifey?” she asks, laughing.

He smirks. “Your Italian is getting better.”

She shakes her head as he goes back to his office. “How do you do that?” I ask. “Keep him at arm’s length but still have the flirty fun?”

Leia arches her brow. “I didn’t give in to his charms. I’m the one he didn’t get, and it kills him.”

“That’s my problem,” I admit, “I give in too easily.”

“There’s nothing wrong with loving sex, Raven. But if you want a relationship, you gotta keep them on their toes. Giving up the goods the second he demands it isn’t what he wants as a wife.”

“I didn’t set out to be serious with him.”

“Well, the next guy who comes along, make him wait, just in case. Men are tricky. They want a goody-two-shoes for a wife and a whore in the bedroom. It’s a fine line trying to balance both.”

“Vinn offered me an apartment. That way he could have his goody-two-shoes wife in Sofia and me as his whore.”

She winces. “Ouch, no wonder Mac wanted to save you. You deserve better, Raven. Start demanding better for yourself. Don’t get me wrong, Vinn’s a good guy deep down, but he’s important in his world and he has to live up to expectations. I’m not making excuses, but he didn’t intend to hurt you. You both saw it as fun, and as I understand it, Riggs warned you not to involve yourself with him. Stick with Mac and walk away from Vinn.”

I nod. She’s right, I know she is, it’s just not as easy as that. Riggs did warn me. He saw me working extra hours and realised what was going on. He didn’t want my affair to impact the club, and who can blame him? I didn’t think then that it would get this far. “I’m gonna cut my hours down. If you hear of any evening jobs, let me know.”

Vinn holds out my jacket. “I need you for a job.”

“Oh?”

“Nothing too much. I want you to deliver a message to someone. I can drop you home after.”

“Erm, I’m not supposed to be doing that sort of thing anymore,” I mutter.

Vinn narrows his eyes. “Riggs told me. And I told him, it’s your choice. Don’t let a man tell you what to do with your life, Raven. While you’re on my time, I’ll let you choose. Let’s go.”

I don’t point out he’s doing exactly that!

Gerry stops the car outside the Chesterfield Hotel. It’s huge and guests can spend a fortune just for one night here. “Are you clear?” asks Vinn, and I nod. He’s been giving me the rundown since we left the office. I unfasten the top few buttons of my shirt and run my fingers through my hair. “Gerry will be right outside,” he adds.

We ignore the receptionist and use Gerry’s key card to access the lift. I don’t know where he gets this sort of thing, but he can access anywhere he wants.

I knock lightly on room two-twenty and wait for the guy inside to open the door. Gerry stands out of view. “About time,” the man says with a grin. He grabs my hand and tugs me inside. He’s exactly what I imagined him to be—overweight, thinning hair, and a leering smile that puts me on edge. “I asked for young looking,” he says with a grin. “You’re spot on.” He pulls me against him and gropes my breast.

“Whoa there,” I say, pushing his hand away.

“Are you one of those shy types? Do you want it a bit rough, darling?” he asks, grabbing a fistful of my hair with one hand and my throat with the other. I’m so shocked, I freeze. This isn’t what I was expecting. Another man steps out from the bathroom and grins. Vinn didn’t mention two men and panic sets in.

“She’s early,” he says, moving towards us, then squeezing my arse. They stand either side of me, grabbing, pulling, and feeling my body. “The agency said you’re up for role-play,” he pants in my ear, pushing his erection into my back.

“I’m not from the agency,” I manage to spit out. “Vinn Romano sent me.”

Their hands pause, but they keep me pinned between them. This wasn’t how it’s supposed to go. Usually, I have the guy tied to a chair before Gerry enters to deliver his threat. It’s dangerous announcing why I’m there like this, but what choice do I have? “And why the fuck did Vinn Romano send a woman to do his work?”
