I began to blush so I looked at the drink.
I was definitely riding a really nice high right now.
Besides the amazing project I landed, I got a little ahead of myself and was looking up places to live.
My apartment served its purpose.
A perfect place to start out and get my feet on the ground.
For a while I was able to ignore the creaky pipes and the hot water that only worked sometimes. The broken dishwasher that was supposed to be fixed a long time ago. The mousetraps in the hallway - most of them always with a dead mouse staring up at me with milky eyes. The smell of everyone mixed together.
Cigarette smoke. Mold. Garlic.
The smell of the cheap air fresheners that did nothing but make the cigarette smoke, mold, and garlic have a small hint of lavender.
It wasn’t a dangerous place to live. It just wasn’t a forever place.
So I sat at the bar with my phone, looking up houses and apartments.
I hadn’t fully decided yet.
The apartment life was fun at times.
Less worries, but a shared wall…
I felt a presence next to me and turned my head and looked up to see Mr. Jawline standing there.
“Empty seat?”
I nodded. “Yeah…”
He sat down next to me. “Busy?”
“Looking for a place to live.”
“Oh?”
“Shoot,” I said. I grabbed his hand. “I’m not like homeless or anything. I’m not looking to scam people or whatever. I’m looking to move. I have money.”
Mr. Jawline laughed. “You’re jumpy. And cute. And sexy.”
“Oh. Wow.”
“Life is too short to waste it on small talk,” he said. “I like to get to the point.” He leaned toward me. He nodded at my phone. “So, let’s pick out a place to live together.”
“Jeez. One drink and we’re moving in?”
“Two drinks,” he said. “I’ve got the second one covered too.”
“That’s right. Is that a thing? Buy enough to get someone drunk?”
“Does two drinks get you drunk?”
“I guess you’re going to find out, aren’t you?” I asked.
He smirked at me. “Is this where we find out names?”
“Nah,” I said. “You’re Mr. Jawline to me. Now and forever.”
