They were bigger. Maybe not by much from what I remembered from before, but holy shit she was stunning.
I kept my hands on her waist and stared down at her. “Look at you, Sage. All grown up.”
“Yeah? You think?”
“You’re fucking beautiful, honey.”
“Honey? That’s a new one.”
I smirked. “Sorry.”
“No. I like it. I mean, you’re all grown up too, Henry. You look like six inches taller than the last time I saw you. And these shoulders…” She grabbed my shoulders. “Fuck. Did you buy these?”
“They’re all mine, Sage,” I said. “Well earned too. From Puckford University until now I suppose.”
“And what is now…?”
“You’re telling me you haven’t followed my career at all?”
“Henry. I think I kind of still hate you.”
“I don’t blame you, Sage,” I said. “Can I buy you a drink? Can we talk for a little bit?”
She shook her head. “No.”
“Oh,” I said. “Wow. Okay.”
Sage smiled and placed her right hand on my chest. “I don’t want to be here anymore. Take me down to the beach and we can walk and talk there?”
“That sounds fucking amazing, honey,” I said.
“Honey,” she said, giggling and blushing at the same time.
After making sure she didn’t have a tab to settle, we exited the bar together and walked right down to the beach.
I stopped after a few steps, putting my left hand out.
“Ut-oh,” Sage said.
“Wait. You really hate me that much?”
“I didn’t say that I hate you a specific amount. I said I still kind of hate you. Big difference. If I hated you a lot we would not be walking together.”
“So we just randomly bump into one another like this and…”
“We didn’t bump into each other, Henry.”
“Very literal tonight?”
“I’m just pointing out the facts. And, fine, I ended up here to celebrate. I’ve been working my ass off for a long time to branch out on my own. I design web sites and all that nerdy stuff, by the way.”
“That’s surprising,” I said.
“Why?”
“That was never really you.”
“Sorry we all didn’t pick our career while we were still in diapers.”
