Page 131 of Hooking a Hottie

I turned, putting my back to Tad, which gave him the chance to step into my house.

Travis’s school… calling…

“Fuck,” I whispered.

“What is it?” Tad asked as he touched my right shoulder.

“Travis,” I said.

My heart sank as I answered the call.

My stomach flipped in disgust as Tad held my right shoulder.

I missed my lonely hot shower more than ever now.

I kept my mouth shut as I stormed toward my car, Travis jogging to keep up with me.

Mom anger was a whole other thing to feel.

I felt like I could pick my car up and carry it home.

Travis hung his head in total defeat, knowing better than to try and say a word to me.

I got into the car and slammed my door shut so hard the car rocked.

I started the car and was ready to just start driving.

Sage. Deep breath.

Travis climbed into the passenger seat and slowly clipped his seatbelt into place.

I put the car into drive and started moving.

Then I slammed on the brakes and threw the car back into park.

I turned to look at Travis.

He looked at me.

He exploded into tears.

I hadn’t seen my son cry that fast and that much since he was a little kid.

It startled me for a second.

I grabbed and pulled him toward me.

“Travis,” I whispered. “What were you thinking?”

“Am I expelled?”

“No. You’re not expelled. But I think you’re going to take a break from school for a few days or so. This isn’t like you.”

Travis backed away from me.

The way his eyes lit up with tears and the way his nostrils flared, he looked ten years older. Like a man. Pissed off. Hurt. The world kicking his ass so much.

There was nothing I could do about it.
