“You’re always so violent near me.”

“That’s what you do to me…”

Henry started to drop his mouth down to mine.

My head and heart screamed both Yes! and No! at the same time.

“Hey, Henry,” Travis’s voice said from outside the bedroom. I jumped away from Henry. Travis walked into the bedroom. “That fridge is the best I’ve ever seen.”

“Travis, take it easy,” I said as my son stood there holding a can of soda like it was an ice-cold beer after a long day of working in the hot sun.

“Mom, this is a vacation, right?” Travis asked. “I get to drink soda on vacation.”

“Fine,” I said. “Thought you were getting something to eat.”

“Didn’t get to the pantry yet. I thought I would have a soda and watch the ocean.”

“That’s very philosophical,” Henry said.

Travis shrugged his shoulders.

I couldn’t help but laugh.

“Now if you two don’t mind, I’d like my room to myself,” Travis said.

“Excuse you for talking that way,” I said.

Henry put his hands up. “He’s got a point, Sage. He did call dibs on this room. The rules of dibs clearly state…”

I looked at Henry. He shut right up, then smiled.

“That’s your soda for the day,” I said to Travis. “Got it?”

“Got it,” Travis said.

He brought the can to his lips and purposely slurped loudly, knowing it annoyed me.

Henry shut the bedroom door behind him as we left.

“He’s in rare form today,” I said.

Henry touched the middle of my back. “Sage, you don’t need to apologize every time he talks. He’s a kid. He’s feeling things out. I think he’s pretty awesome. He’s not being rude at all.”

“It’s just…” My voice trailed off. I had nothing else to say. Henry didn’t press me at all to talk. Which meant the world in that moment.

He led the way downstairs to the second floor.

To the master bedroom. The master suite.

Two French doors led the way to a large bedroom with a very large bed right on display in the middle of the room.

Butterflies danced in my lower belly as I wondered what exactly the sleeping arrangements were around here. I mean, the house had a whole bunch of bedrooms. We weren’t going to be forced to share a bed.

I looked up, thinking about my son.

I did not need him catching his mother in bed with some random guy.

But Henry isn’t some random guy!
