“Come and get the puck, you big jock!” Travis called out.

“Whoa,” Rome said. “You hear that, Atlas? I think he wants to drop the gloves…”

Travis started to move a little smoother.

He lost the puck a couple times but went back to get it each time.

He lost his balance a few times too, but he only fell that one time.

It took all of five minutes before Travis was skating with ease. Not only that, but he had a natural ability with his puck handling skills. It came to him so smoothly. He was so focused.

“Okay, let’s see you skate around me and take a shot on goal,” Joe said.

Joe looked like a giant grizzly bear ready to snack on Travis.

Travis skated toward Joe and moved around him.

Joe looked at me surprised.

Travis kept going, getting closer to the net.

Jago poked his stick out and knocked the puck away from Travis.

“Crap!” Travis called out.

“Too close, kid,” Seb said. “Don’t let the goalie make the move for you. Get back in there!”

Travis skated to the boards and bumped into them.

He got the puck back and turned. He skated out and then spun around, taking a surprise shot at Jago.

The puck lifted a little, not a lot.

Jago snagged the puck out of midair with ease.

He slid his mask back. “That was good thinking. You never did this before?”

“Nope,” Travis said.

“Told you,” I said with a beaming smile of pride on my face. “This kid can do anything. It’s amazing.”

“I want to see him fight,” Atlas said.

Travis threw his stick to the ice and made fists.

Atlas started to laugh.

How about that? Travis made Atlas laugh…

The guys all gathered around Travis.

He was a rock star to them.

I looked over at Sage and her eyes were glossy from a mile away. She clutched at her chest, at her heart. She mouthed thank you to me.

I smiled.

What a moment. For all of us.
