“Tell me everything.”

“I don’t know. I feel like I keep messing things up. Everywhere.”

“You haven’t messed up a thing, honey.”

“Yes, I did. I texted you devastating news and then ran. Who does that?”

“Someone who is scared. Someone who is trying to protect their son.”

“How can you not hate me right now?”

“I may not be thrilled… but I don’t hate you.”

“So, did you just fuck me to release anger?” I asked.

“No. I fucked you because all I want to do is fuck you. I want you to feel loved, needed, wanted, and full of pleasure. I want you to know that no matter what happens, I’m in this. As long as you are.”

“In… this…?”

I nodded. “All of it, Sage.”

“What are you saying, Henry?”

“I’m saying that I don’t want to meet up with you every ten years and have great sex and not talk again. I want this. You. Your life. Everything that comes with it.”

“Why are you dancing around words, Henry? Say it…”

“If Travis’s father doesn’t want to be here, then I’ll do it. I’ll be here. I won’t hurt him, Sage. I won’t let him down. Are there a million things to think and worry about? Yes. But being hurt isn’t one of them. I would never.”

“Henry, that’s so much to take on. It’s so much easier said than done. It’s not as simple as renting a beach house…”

“I know that, honey. That’s why I’m going to let him guide the way. I’m not just going to show up and take over. What kind of man would do that? I’m going to be here. There’s a difference.”

“Where are you going to live?”

I smiled. “I’ll sleep outside.”

“Henry!”

“Sage. I have my condo. I can crash there when need be. Or I can stay here. Or we can find an in between place. Just for you and me. I meant what I said… we can find a place. We can start a life. The three of us, Sage.”

Her eyes filled with more tears.

She shut her eyes and the tears escaped.

I stroked her cheek. “This isn’t pillow talk. This is real talk. I’ve wanted you from the second I met you. Damn your grandfather and his stupid rule, but look where it got us. We know what it’s like to not be together and I know that’s a feeling I don’t want to have ever again.”

“Me too, Henry. Me… too…”

Sage lunged closer for a kiss.

Our lips touched and suddenly her phone starting going off.

Someone was at the door.

She quickly took the top blanket and got out of bed to find her phone.

“You’ve got to be kidding me,” she said.
