Time zones.
Culture.
People.
And get paid…
I gritted my teeth and found the ability to bench press five more reps.
That last one though took me a few extra seconds to get moving.
I loved the sound of the metal hitting metal.
I sat up and turned to reach for my bottle of water.
That’s when I saw Sage.
Standing a few feet away.
She looked nervous.
No.
She looked scared.
She had her right hand hiding her mouth.
I slowly stood up and turned all the way around.
“Sage,” I whispered. “Are you okay?”
She blinked a couple times and then lowered her hand.
I was not expecting to see blood.
It felt like the world paused for a few seconds to allow me to process.
Even though I had no idea what to process.
Sage was bleeding.
That could have happened a million different ways.
But Sage came to see me…
Reality faded back in as I reached for her.
As soon as I touched her arms she stepped back, shaking her head.
“Okay,” I said. “Just tell me what happened. Where are you actually cut or hurt?”
Her chin quivered.
She needed a big hug. But she didn’t want a hug. She didn’t want to be touched.
Sage was terrified.
I nodded. “Okay, Sage. Listen to me. We’re going to go into the locker room and get you cleaned up. Okay? That’s all. Get some wet paper towels and see what’s happening. I can always ask Pete for some supplies too. Okay?”
