I spun around, jaw dropped, and I knew I had about two seconds to stop this.

I could have ran and jumped on his back and forced a laugh and told him I was only kidding.

Then again…

‘Keith, I can’t watch this stuff anymore. You’re a bully!’

‘Oh, you little princess. Calling me a bully? You love when I hurt other people.’

He grunts and flexes his arms.

Maybe the whole alpha in a leather jacket thing was cool for a second, but now it was just scary.

‘You’re drunk too. All you do is drink. I can’t be around this, Keith. I’m sorry.’

‘Oh, I get it. We’re not hidden in the woods now, right? You can take off and be safe. Which, you know what? What happened that night? Huh? The night you ran off. You never told me how you got home.’

‘I told you what happened. I’m not doing this right now. Goodbye, Keith.’

‘Don’t you dare turn around, Sage…’

I step back from Keith.

The look in his eyes worries me.

He opens his eyes wider, showing me just how fucking nuts he really is.

Oh, correction… he shows me how fucking nuts he really is when he punches one of the porch pillars.

The one right next to my head.

Just a foot away if that.

I suck in a breath and I feel myself panic.

My senses are heightened and that little voice of reason is telling me to run like hell away from this guy.

‘I can’t talk to you like this,’ I say. ‘You’re always drunk. And you’re always mean. And now you’re getting violent.’

‘You don’t know violence, you little prissy princess.’

‘Go fuck yourself, Keith,’ I say.

That feels so good to get off my chest.

I finally turn away from him.

He grabs my right arm and it’s like a bomb goes off in my head.

I picture the night he grabbed me and left a mark.

How bad it hurt.

How scared I was being alone in the woods.

I let out a scream.

I don’t even know what kind of scream it is.
