Page 56 of Hooking a Hottie

I loaded the dishwasher for Sage, then poured her another cup of coffee. It felt way too comfortable in her house and way too comfortable near her.

We moved around one another, flowing as though we had done this a million times.

She dumped some of her coffee and rinsed her mug.

I asked her where the dishwasher detergent was. She told me.

We just… flowed…

For a second I forgot about my real life.

Professional hockey player with a small condo.

That I preferred to save and invest as much money as possible so I had a nice nest egg to fall back on when the time came to retire from hockey.

That I lived alone. That I was single.

That I wasn’t actively dating, fucking, or really looking for anything or anyone…

“A lot on your mind?” Sage asked.

“Yeah. I have a feeling we’re just avoiding the inevitable right now.”

“We definitely are.”

“I should go. Get dressed for…”

“You didn’t bring your suit with you?” Sage asked.

My jaw tightened. I nodded.

Yeah. I brought it. I grabbed it at the last second. Just in case. It’s hanging up in the SUV.

“You have it with you?”

“Yes,” I said.

“Good. Get changed here. Why drive back to the hotel?” Sage looked over her shoulder and then nodded. “You can go into his room to get changed if you want. Unless that’s weird.”

“No,” I said. “It’s perfect.”

Morbid, yes.

Perfect… yes.

I would have a chance to look around Leon’s room and think it all through.

I went outside as Sage went upstairs.

When I returned, I had my suit in my hand.

It took a few seconds to muster up the courage to open the door to Leon’s front room.

I slid the pocket door open and stepped into the room.

I turned and shut the door behind me.

The first thing?
