That thick honey clinging between her legs.

The sound of her voice calling out my name.

The way she looked back at me when I took her from behind.

I suddenly had this crazy notion that I would gladly give up hockey to be with her. Or even just to be near her.

I stepped closer to Rome and grabbed the beer bottle from him and drank the entire thing in one big gulp.

That ceased the laughter.

The guys all stared at me.

“I’m just grieving,” I said.

Which was actually true.

Except I wasn’t grieving Leon.

I was just missing the hell out of his granddaughter.

Rome called me a little after eight.

Truthfully, I had been desperate for my phone to go off. Something. Anything. The resistant mindset I grasped at to not get in touch with Sage slowly fell to the wayside.

It was either call Sage or get drunk. Or worse yet - both at the same time!

When I saw Rome’s name appear on the screen of my phone I almost cheered out loud.

At least until I heard the panic in voice after I said hello.

“It’s Emily,” he said. “The baby…”

My heart dropped. “What? What is it?”

“She’s not feeling great. She’s being stubborn, Henry. I need your help.”

“Anything.”

“Look, I’m at this suction place. Okay? I’ve got these things stuck to my back. Did you know they use fire?”

“Rome, focus.”

“Emily said she’s feeling a little dizzy. A little faint. I can’t have her passing out and…”

“I’m on it,” I said.

“I’ll be there as soon as I can too,” Rome said. “I just know you’re closer. Sorry to bother you if you-”

“Rome, I’m hanging up and leaving. Keep your phone handy. Just in case.”

“Thank you,” Rome said.

It took a lot for Rome’s voice to get uneasy and hearing the way he said thank you almost made my legs turn wobbly.

Rome was scared.

And if Emily wasn’t feeling good at all, she needed a hospital.
