CHAPTER 28

Dylan

What in the hell had I been thinking when I’d bought her that damn gown?

“Is everything okay?” Kylie asked softly as she sat next to me in the back seat of the Ghost on the way to the gala.

“Good. Yes. Everything is fine.”

What else was I going to say?

I could hardly admit that I was regretting my decision to buy her a gown she loved, simply because it was probably going to draw every male eye at the gala.

The dress had looked perfectly fine on the mannequin.

I just hadn’t been ready to see that same gown on Kylie or the way her curvy body filled out that damn garment.

If I wanted to be completely honest with myself, the dazzling blue color complemented her flame-colored hair and fair skin perfectly. Yes, she’d stand out, but Kylie Hart was going to be noticeable anywhere she went.

It was the deceptively innocent leaf patterns scattered in the cut of the dress that had nearly bowled me over when I’d seen her come down the stairs this evening.

All right. Yes. All of the important areas were covered with those sequined leaves—just barely. However, it was the way they were concealed that was totally unsettling.

Way too much bare skin and her entire back was exposed. The material clung to her shapely body, hugging it like a lover, and one wrong move in that dress would probably expose a part of her body that should not be uncovered.

I took a deep breath and let it back out again. To be fair, it was very chic, and if any other woman had been wearing it, I wouldn’t have blinked an eye.

Seeing it on Kylie, however, had made me into a damn lunatic.

There was no denying that she looked stunning. I just wasn’t crazy about the idea of every other guy at the gala ogling my woman.

Fuck! When in the hell had I become a possessive psycho?

I’d escorted women to social events who were wearing attire that was just as revealing.

Kylie looked sensual. Gorgeous. Elegant. Breathtaking.

I just hoped that I wouldn’t want to punch every man who eyed her the way I would be.

“Are you sure you’re okay?” she asked again, more hesitantly this time.

Christ! I was being a bastard to her, and she hadn’t done a single thing wrong. I took her hand and squeezed it. “I’m fine, sweetheart. I’m sorry I had to go into the office today.”

Damian had been unavailable, and we’d had a crisis at headquarters. It had taken me half the day to get things smoothed out.

While I planned on being at headquarters more this week, I’d hoped for one more day with Kylie before things got crazy.

“I told you, it was perfectly okay,” she said adamantly. “It gave me a little time to catch up on work and make your picture collage. If you don’t like it, I can take it down.”

Was I really being such a prick that she thought I hadn’t loved her gift?

Kylie had made it a point to have someone take our pictures everywhere we’d gone during the last week, and she’d put them together for me today. She’d gone out and gotten the frames and used my photo printer to put everything together.

The end result had been a large photo collection of the two of us that she’d put on the big wall in the kitchen.

We’d looked so damn happy in every picture, and I’d been touched that she’d taken the time to put it together.

“I loved it,” I assured her. “It’s in the perfect spot. I’ll see it more often in the kitchen since I’m in that room a lot more often than others.”
