Did we?

“I know he’s healed me,” I admitted. “He turned all of my old insecurities around about men just by making me feel…special. And wanted. I trust him, and I haven’t given a man my trust in a long time.”

“I think you’ve healed him for the same reasons, Kylie,” Nic said gently. “After what happened to him, do you really think he could hand over his trust to another woman easily? Maybe it was somewhat easier for him because he has family who showed him what trust and unconditional love was like, but still, he has no reason to trust a woman.”

“She put him through hell,” Macy agreed.

“I know,” I said, my heart filled with pain. “I swear, if she wasn’t dead, I’d bitch slap her into next week. I don’t know how anyone could put a guy through that just to make her own life easier. I know she wasn’t right in the head. Dylan told me. She didn’t deserve to die, and neither did her child, but her cruelty still floors me.”

“Me, too,” Nic and Macy said at the same time.

“Sometimes, I feel helpless about what I can ever do to take that pain away,” I confessed.

Nic smiled softly. “I think you already have just by being you. Just keep on loving him, Kylie. That will be more than enough.”

I let out a long breath before I shared, “Since I love him more than I ever thought possible, it’s the only thing I can do.”
