Why?What in the hell did he want with ACM? Yeah, Lancaster International was in the business of acquiring small companies that were floundering and building them up into huge, international companies. But ACM wasn’t in financial trouble.

As he’d mentioned previously, our bottom line could be better, and there was huge potential for ACM to grow, but the company didn’t need rescuing.

Had he seen an opportunity when he’d been helping me with some business issues?

Did he want to make ACM into an enormous, international PR company?

“Oh, my God,” I whispered as I put my hand to my mouth.

“I’ll do it,” Nicole said in an unhappy tone.

The pain of Dylan’s betrayal cut through my heart like it was being sliced by a red-hot knife.

He’d played me.

And I’d happily allowed myself to be played.

I didn’t know his exact motivations, but did it really matter? He knew how much ACM and this partnership had meant to me.

Tears welled up in my eyes, and because I had no other option, I fled.

The partnership was never really mine. It was just a plan that had never been solidified. I’d never had the money to make it a reality.

I raced toward the front entrance, tears starting to trickle down my cheeks as I finally hit the door.

Run! Run!

I had to get away.

I wasn’t about to confront Dylan Lancaster and let him feed me any more bullshit than he had already.

I’d talk to Nic later. We’d been friends for a long time, and even though I felt betrayed, it was her business, her possession left to her by her mom, to sell.

Maybe her intentions had been good, but since she was starting a new job as a corporate attorney, keeping ACM was just too much for her.

I’d just bolted out the front when I heard someone call my name.

“Kylie! Wait!”

Leo.

He caught up to me just as I’d located the Ghost in the group of cars lining the driveway.

I pulled the car door open.

“I’m sorry, Leo. I have to go,” I said with a strangled sob.

I hopped into the car.

“Not like this,” he insisted. “What’s wrong?”

I simply shook my head and pulled the door closed.

“I need to get back to the house, please,” I instructed the driver.

“Yes, miss,” he acknowledged, putting the car in motion immediately.

My pulse was still racing as I closed my eyes and tried not to hear the sound of Leo’s voice still calling my name.
