CHAPTER 33

Dylan

I’d been mildly concerned when I hadn’t seen Kylie come back from the house after ten minutes had passed.

I’d been a little worried when I’d walked through Hollingsworth and still had seen no sign of her after twenty minutes.

Once thirty minutes had gone by, and I’d walked the house and immediate grounds without finding her, I was fairly frantic.

Where in the hell could she have gone? She’d just gone to the loo, for fuck’s sake.

She’d known I was waiting for her.

“Have either of you seen Kylie?” I asked Damian and Leo as I found them near the food tables, most of the guests now gone. “I can’t find her, and she’s not answering any of my calls or texts.”

“Shit!” Leo cursed as he looked at me. “Why do I feel like I’m going through a serious case of déjà vu? I was just asking Damian why he thought Kylie had left in tears. It was almost the same as the time Nicole left so suddenly at the gala. Same tearful face. Same devastated expression.”

Fear started to roar in my ears as I asked, “What in the hell are you talking about?”

“She left about twenty-five minutes ago,” Leo answered. “She came flying out the door of the house crying. She told me she had to leave and then jumped into the Ghost before I could catch her.”

“Kylie isn’t the sort of woman who breaks into tears for nothing,” I informed him.

“Well, she was definitely weeping today,” Leo said defensively.

“Where would she go? Why would she go?” I said hoarsely. “We were going to take a walk to the lake. She just went to the loo.”

I pulled my mobile from my pocket and shot off a text to my driver.

His reply came back a moment later.

“She asked him to take her back to the house,” I informed them. “They’re nearly there.”

I looked down as I got a second text.

“Shit! She asked him to stand by when they get there because she’s going to want to go to Heathrow. What in the hell is she doing?” I growled as I texted him back.

Once he’d confirmed, I shoved the mobile back in my pocket.

She could very easily just call an Uber or a taxi. Asking my driver to stall and not take her anywhere wasn’t going to buy me much time.

“I have to go,” I told my brothers. “I’m not sure what happened, but she’s going to be headed to Heathrow. If she hasn’t answered my texts or calls by now, she obviously doesn’t plan on doing it at all.”

“What do you think happened?” Damian asked gruffly. “Kylie isn’t the flighty type.”

I raked a frustrated hand through my hair. “I have no idea. She was fine just minutes before. As I said, she just went inside to the loo before we took a walk down to the lake.”

“Somebody had to have said something to her,” Leo pondered. “She looked pretty upset.”

Fuck!It was killing me not to know what was wrong with her. Kylie didn’t get upset over nothing. I couldn’t even see her getting distraught because of something someone said to her.

She would have come straight to me if someone would have said something offensive, and the fact that she hadn’t talked to me had me really worried.

Everyone she really cared about was right here at this event.

Anyone she would want to talk to about a problem were all here, too.

Why in the hell would she just run away like that?
