“We should probably hide then,” Aaron said with a chuckle.

I nodded, opening the door wider so they could file into the foyer. They went for the basement automatically, knowing exactly where to go. Swallowing hard, I shut the door, trying to keep my nerves from snapping completely.

I followed them down the stairs to wait for Romero. The chess board was set and I’d made the first move. It was up to him now.

The men sat at the table and I took one of the bar stools from the corner, placing it in the middle of the room. Once perched up on it, the wrap dress naturally parted over my crossed legs, splitting so high my thighs were exposed.

Aaron groaned. “Seriously, babe, this can be for real. You could make so much cash.”

I ignored their looks, staring instead at the empty seat: Romero’s. “I’m not interested in the money.”

“Well any one of us could give you a night you’d never forget,” Rafael said in his low, guttural tone.

I smirked. “I don’t doubt that.”

Eli’s spine straightened. “We could all share you.”

The room went deadly quiet. My heart tripped over itself, leaping into a flurry of heavy beats. For a moment, I wondered if they could hear it.

My face burned, but I looked around the room, waiting for someone to burst into laughter. Darren looked thoughtful. Kieran’s eyes were narrowed, staring past me at nothing, while Rafael’s gaze seemed to burn a hole right through me. Aaron at least looked confused by the idea.

“You can’t be serious,” I rushed out. “The logistics of that are—and Romero would probably shit a brick if he even heard you joke about that.”

Rafael chuckled. “Don’t worry, he sent us packing shortly after that night. Kieran usually works in Vegas, but he didn’t take the hint to get lost until after Romero found you in his limo.” They all sniggered. “His feelings for you are quite clear.” Rafael’s lips curved at the corners, making my blush deepen.

Well, we’ll see.

Just as the thought raced through my mind, an engine rumbled close and then a car door shut softly outside. My back went ramrod straight, heart continuing its frenzy.

I rubbed my hands down my thighs, trying to steel my nerves. I’d have to keep up the act until Romero revealed his hand.

When the front door opened, Eli leaned close. “Breathe. It’s okay to look nervous, but you look like you’re about to be sick.”

I nodded, drawing in a deep breath through my nose. Aaron stood, went to the sink, and turned on the faucet behind the bar.

Romero didn’t waste any time coming to the top of the stairs. Texting him that Aaron was here likely had him in a jealous rage.

“What the fuck,” he muttered, jogging down the steps, then stopping abruptly when he took in my glittery red heels and bare legs. Slowly, he continued, and I felt his gaze like a caress. My pussy throbbed, remembering how his tongue felt on it.

When he reached the bottom, he stared at me, taking in my outfit. Our eyes were tangled together in a furious storm of heat and lust. Then someone cleared their throat and Romero’s head jerked to the side.

His brows lowered, and he growled, “What is this?”

Shakily, I sucked in another breath before undoing the sash at my waist. I rolled my shoulders slightly and the silky red fabric slid down my arms. I let it fall around the stool, leaving me in black lace panties and a matching bra. The same ones he’d seen in his office.

The air in the room heated suddenly. A few of the men murmured curses, but my eyes stayed fixed on Romero. His throat bobbed, eyes dilating.

“What. Is. This?” His voice was low and dangerous.

“An auction,” I said, but my voice didn’t come out as strongly as I wanted it to. Clearing my throat, I tried again. “For my virginity.”

“No,” he snarled, starting forward. Each of the men rose to their feet and he stopped, turning toward them with an expression that said he was two seconds from putting bullets in their skulls.

My pulse skittered. It can’t come to violence.

“I’m starting the bidding at half a million.” This time I managed to keep my voice firm.

After a tense moment of silence, Aaron lifted his hand. “Seven hundred thousand.”
