I sat back against the seat of my motorcycle, my ankles crossed. “You wanna go for a ride?”

Her eyes brightened, her mouth falling open just enough to pull in a soft gasp of air. She slowly walked toward me, a smile curling at the corner of her lips. “I thought you’d never ask.”

I hadn’t had a woman on the back of my ride since Lucy.

The only other person who had filled that seat was Calli. Otherwise, it was always reserved for my Old Lady.

It wasn’t a rule that every brother had. It was each man’s prerogative.

For me, when I lost Lucy, I never wanted to disrespect her by filling her place on the back of my ride with just any bitch I stuck my dick in. Now that I was sure about what direction things were going with Shay, and she’d expressed how much respect she had for Lucy and her place in Calli’s and my lives, I knew it was about time that place on my ride became hers.

A woman with that much grace and respect was not someone you let go.

“Well,” I paused, holding out a backpack with Shay’s jeans, a pair of boots, and a jacket inside. “Safety first. Run and get changed, and let’s go. We’ve got somewhere to be.”

She snatched the bag from my hands and all but skipped back inside, much to my amusement. And in less than five minutes, she appeared again, holding out her arms and doing a dramatic twirl.

She was sexy as fucking hell.

But she’d look even sexier wearing my property patch on her back.

“One thing at a time,” I muttered to myself, holding out my spare helmet as she approached with a grin that could have lit up the universe like the sun. “You ever ridden on a motorcycle before?”

“Never,” she answered, wrapping her arms around the helmet.

“Good. I’ll be your first and your last.”

She rolled her eyes. “You don’t know that.”

I reached for her face, pinching her chin and pulling her lips to mine. “Yeah, baby. I fucking do.” She looked up at me, a playful smile growing. “You say shit just to push me, don’t you?”

“I plead the fifth,” she said, kissing me quickly before trying to escape, but I grabbed her jacket, tugging her back in and lowering my voice.

“I’m gonna make you plead for something later,” I growled and dipped my head, her entire body shuddering as my breath brushed over her ear. “Now, let’s ride.”

I stepped back, and she grinned. “Yes, sir.”

I swear, this woman will be the death of me.

It was sometimes hard to judge whether a person was going to be good on the back of a motorcycle or would completely throw your rhythm off and make the ride uneasy.

Riding double required a lot of trust between the two people, especially if the passenger was inexperienced.

If there was ever a sign that Shay was fucking perfect for me, it was in the free-spirited laughter that filled the air over the sound of my Harley as we cruised through the countryside.

Damn, it was fucking beautiful, and I couldn’t help but grin the entire time.

After hearing her talk about being locked up in rehab and her curiosity about what it would feel like to cruise through these beautiful scenic roads with no barrier between her and the world around her, being the first to share that experience with her was something I’d remember forever.

I wanted to help her find a world she could see beauty in, given she’d suffered so much darkness and loss.

Shay held tight, her cheek pressed to my back as we cruised past a couple of old farmhouses and a large barn, heading deeper and deeper into farmland, away from the bustle and chaos of the city. The grass was lush and green, a gentle breeze whipping across it like a wave rolling through the ocean.

When I began to slow, she tightened her arms around me. I eased off the road and onto a dirt track, suddenly extremely thankful we had prospects back home because my ride would desperately need cleaning and buffing after this trip.

The track went through the middle of a forest, tall pines lining either side and leaning over us, shading us with a natural archway before we broke out the other side into a large, secluded area, trees on both sides surrounding a small private cabin that looked out over the lake.

“Where are we?” Shay yelled over the rumble of the engine.
