Shelby’s eyes lit up. “I’m so happy to hear that.”

“I started at the bottom, just like you. I worked my way up the ladder, spending years in service, learning everything about the business that I could. Just looking at your resume, I can see that you have the potential. I think you’d be a great fit. What do you say to a trial period?”

Shelby’s eyes were wide as a smile crossed her face. “Yes! I’d love the chance to prove that I can be an asset.”

“From what I see here, I’m sure you will be. I’m the general manager, and you would be working under me.” Jordan ran through the manager’s responsibilities. “I might delegate other tasks, depending on how easily you’re picking things up. Basically, when I’m not here, you would be in charge. Still interested?”

“Absolutely.”

Jordan grinned and held out her hand. “Then all that’s left to say is, welcome aboard, Shelby. I’ll text you your schedule. Sound good?”

“Sounds great! Thank you so much.” She shook Jordan and Noah’s hands. “I’ll see you soon.”

Jordan stayed in boss mode until Shelby was out the door. Then suddenly she turned to him, her face alight with exhilaration. She excitedly wrapped her arms around him, hugging him, and jumping up and down. “That was so much fun. We just hired our manager. This is really happening!”

As much as he wanted to hold her tight and never let her go, he loosened his grasp when she pulled away. But he didn’t let go.

“I mean, I know this is really happening, but it’s finally all coming together. Look around—the painting is almost complete, the seating and fixtures are all installed, the bar is gorgeous, and the staff is now in place.” She looked at him, a huge smile on her face. Her enthusiasm was contagious.

“One more week.” He looked around, feeling the same way. Seeing that excitement on her face made all the stress of getting the place refurbished worth it. Still holding on to her waist, he pulled her close.

Face to face, he forgot all about the restaurant as he gazed into her eyes. Maybe it was her take-charge attitude that had him turned on, or maybe it was her unadulterated passion for this business.

His gaze moved to her lips, before glancing back up to meet her stare.

“I think we’re done here for today.” Noah smiled at her, something he couldn’t help himself from doing. “You want to go get a coffee?”

She stuttered, looking like a deer in headlights. “I, uh…” She stepped back, leaving what felt like a gaping space between them. “No. I have to get home, sorry.”

“Big plans?” he asked with a smirk, hiding his disappointment.

“What? Oh, no… Just regular size plans. You know.” Her cheeks darkened. “So, I will see you tomorrow.”

“Yeah, tomorrow.”

“Goodnight.”

He watched her walk to the exit. Jordan was so much more than a pretty face. Even in yoga pants and a sweatshirt, she radiated organization and management. She preferred that businesslike persona, but he’d already seen her softer side with her sister and nephew. It made him all the more intrigued to find out what other mysteries she hid.

“Noah, you need to be careful,” Jared warned from behind the bar.

“You still here?” Noah teased.

“On my way out. Just doing a quick once over to see what we need to order for the Grand Opening.”

“How are we looking?”

“I have a list of liquor, and we are on pace with hiring. Maybe find a few more servers. But we still need to okay the menu so we can put the order in.”

“Jordan and I will do that tomorrow. We can look through all the applications and set up a few more interviews as well.” Noah stared at the front door. Tomorrow couldn’t come soon enough.

“Noah. Be careful.”

“Meaning?”

“Jordan. I see how you look at her.”

Noah waved him off, annoyance bubbling to the surface. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
