“Not going to lie, Dean, I’m a little stunned. I didn’t know my mother was involved in such an amazing organization.” I say, tears forming, but I won’t let them drop. Not here, not in front of him.?

“Oh, my dear Jade, there’s a lot you aren’t aware of, but in due time, child, in due time.” I just nod because now, I want to leave and call my dad to see what the fuck is going on.?

“I’ll be there, sir. May I leave now? I see I have some shopping to do.” I nervously laugh,?

“Absolutely, Jade. Thanks for coming in, I’ll see you soon.” I nod, leaving his office, bypassing the secretary and out the doors. ?Why does it feel like there’s so much I truly don’t know about my mom? So many fucking secrets and lies, it’s exhausting. ?I’m so deep in my thoughts that I don’t realize I’m standing in front of Spade, sitting on his bike. I look up at him, and he smirks. I give him the finger and blow him a kiss. He just shakes his head, and I keep moving towards the parking garage. I hop in my G-wagon, throwing on “Na Na” by Trey Songz.?

Seeing Spade must have hit me harder than I thought. Suddenly I’m home and pulling up to the gate and punching the code in. The gate opens, and I head straight for the garage. Pulling in, I shut my truck off, and just sit there for a minute trying to get my shit together. I finally get out and head toward the house. I close the garage door as I walk in and am immediately greeted by my babies, pulling me back into the present. Walking through the kitchen, I grab a couple treats to toss to the pups, then grab some take-out menus for Slim and me to decide what the hell we are going to eat while we study for this goddamn physics test. I run upstairs to change out of my uniform before he gets here and text my dad on the way up.?

Me: Hey, Pops. Why didn’t you tell me about Mom being involved with a charity for kids in need?

Pops: Oh shit, that’s coming up, isn’t it?

Me: Uh, ya! I just got the invite. I never knew Mom was into this shit.

Pops: There’s a lot you don’t know about your mother. Come to the clubhouse over the weekend, and let’s grab dinner.?

Me: Okay, that sounds great. See ya soon, Pops.?

Pops: Love you, Fal.

Me: Love you more.?

Throwing on some leggings, an oversized band tee and put my hair in a messy bun. I grab some pillows and blankets, bring them to the game room, and set up our study area while waiting for Slim. An hour passes, and Slim never shows up, never calls or texts. That’s odd as fuck. I’ve called him a few times, but nothing. I’m freaking starving at this point. Opening my phone to order Chinese. A text comes through, but it’s not from Slim.

Jamie: Be ready in twenty. We have somewhere to go. Dress in all black and bring a few guns and blades.?

Me: I’m fucking starving and tired. I have to study for this stupid test tomorrow.

Jamie: Someone has Slim, now move your fucking ass.

Me: You should of fucking led with that, asshole.?

I throw my phone down and go suit up. After I’m dressed, I enter my safe and riddle my body with all sorts of weapons. I don’t know who took my bestie, but once I do, they won’t make it out alive. I’ll rain Bedlam just to find him. I check myself once more in the mirror when my phone chimes, letting me know Jamie is at the gates. I run down the stairs and out the door, setting the alarm as I move. I get to the gates and slide out.?Opening the door to Jamie’s Ram, I freeze. Well, hello fuck faces one and two.?

“Greetings, Little Killer.”

Pulling up to the front of Jade’s house is surreal. It wasn’t too long ago that everything was fine; we were all fucking happy. Now, it’s like she’s a complete stranger, and I fucking hate it. Am I highly disappointed in her actions lately? One hundred and fifty percent. I mean, she tried to burn us alive. She has to pay her penance for that move. Do I miss her? Yes. I miss her more than I let on, but every action has terrible consequences. She’s not the only one paying for their actions. The contract I stupidly signed out of anger, I regret it every fucking day, but there’s nothing I can do about it now. I’m pulled out of my head as Jade climbs into the truck, rolling her eyes. She won’t even look at Spade. I have no idea what transpired between them during that little race getaway and Spade won’t talk about it. I’m surprised to even be in the car with my brothers tonight. We haven’t been together in weeks. It’s like we’ve drifted apart without Jade in our lives.

“So, who has Slim?” Jade questions, looking over at Jameson.?

“Apparently, these new guys that just started at the Academy—I’m pretty sure they are from Lexi’s neck of the woods. The deep, churchgoing southerners, who hold their bible a little too tight, you know what I mean?” Jameson snorts.

“And why would they bother with Slim? Do they not know who the fuck he is?”

“We don’t even know who the fuck he is,” Spade interjects. I shake my head. Here we fucking go. If looks could kill, Spade would be dead on the spot as she narrows her eyes, ready to sink her claws into him.

“One, no one was fucking talking to you, Reid. If you must know, his uncle is Flynn. Why don’t you use that brain of yours and put two and two together.” Her tone is laced with venom. What the fuck happened between them?

“Awe, are you still mad at me for my choice of words I left you with?” he taunts.?

“Fuck off!” She snaps.
