“Nothing.”

“Bullshit, Jillian. Tell me what you were going to say.”

“Despite the fact that you don’t want me here. Okay? Is that good enough?” It’s not exactly what I expected. I expected her to call me every name in the book and call me an asshole.

“You have a mouth on you.”

“If you don’t like my mouth, I’ll quit.” Stepping closer, I eat up the space between us until I’m nearly on top of her.

“What did you say?”

“Are you getting deaf in your old age?”

“That shit is going to get you punished.”

“I’m not worried about getting fired. I totally see that coming. It’s clear as day that you want nothing to do with me because I had a stupid crush on you as a little girl. Don’t worry about me drooling over you anymore.”

“I’m not worried.”

“Good, because Cynthia reminded me that there are gorgeous men that come to this building all the time.”

“Don’t push me, woman,” I grunt, my temper growing more heated by the second. The idea of her mentioning other men sets my teeth on edge. She has no concept of how dangerous I’ve gotten when it comes to her.

“That’s right. I’m a woman now, Mr. Masterson. Not a little girl. I have needs, and if you won’t satisfy them, eventually someone else will.” I wrap my fingers around her throat.

“I warned you what would happen to them if they did.”

She lets out a gasp. She shakes her head ever so softly, confusion laced in her eyes. “It wasn’t a dream.”

Chapter Five

Jillian

“No, it wasn’t.” He closes the distance, and I can barely breathe when he runs his tongue along my throat. I moan, tilting my head to the side, allowing him free reign to my neck. “You’re mine, and I was deadly serious, Jillian.”

“Then why don’t you want me here?” I whimper, feeling so vulnerable.

“Because how can I get any work done?” he asks, pressing his hips forward, pinning my body against the desk with his unmistakable length digging into my ass. “When all I want to do is to be inside you.”

I press back, feeling every inch of his body against mine as I weakly plead, “I should leave, then.”

“You’re never leaving me again.”

“I never left you.” Sawyer spins me around and stares into my eyes with his light brown eyes, and they’re full of hurt.

He caresses my cheek, and my body trembles from the slight touch. “I never wanted to hurt you, Jillian, but there was no way we could have been together before.”

“And now?” I question, wanting to know where we stand. I have loved this man for so long. Longer than I knew what real love was, way before I understood what life could be, and then he disappeared from my existence.

“Now…Now you messed up by dropping into my lap before I could hunt you down,” he grumbles like it’s a problem that I didn’t let him make a grand entrance.

“You planned to hunt me down, Mr. Masterson?” He nods, and then his mouth lightly caresses mine. It’s powerful, yet controlled. His hands slide slowly up my arms to my hair, cupping my head. I cling to him, giving in to the kiss I’ve been dreaming of for years.

Our kiss evolves, his tongue sliding into my mouth as I let out a moan. I wrap my legs around his strong thighs, and he pushes me up onto his desk. It’s then I remember where we are. I push against his chest. “No, no. I can’t. I can’t.”

“What? What’s wrong, Jillian?”

I shake my head, tears falling when I told myself I wouldn’t let them. “I don’t want to be just another one of your lovers.”
