“Oh.” Ember paused. “Well, you go first.”

“No. You go first.”

“Jeez, girls. Will somebody go first?” I rolled my eyes. They were like this all the time.

“I don’t really have something to say. I want to show you something,” Ember told her.

“Oh, that’s funny. I have something to show you, too.” Birdie smiled and I could tell Saint was in the room with her. They’d been getting closer. She’d say the Montana air was good for her soul, but I knew that Viking had been with her at night. Ember was horrible at keeping secrets.

“This is a dilemma, Bird.” Ember looked down at her positive test.

“You go first. My news can wait.”

“Now, you have me curious.” Ember sighed.

“Just go at the same time to get it over with,” I told them.

“Agreed. Tell them, mama.”

Ember and I looked at each other.

“Did he call you mama? That’s weird.”

“He did. He’s just being goofy.” Birdie’s face turned red. “I’ll show my surprise, but you have to show me yours at the same time.”

“Deal.”

“On the count of three…” Birdie counted. “One, two, three…” She held up a pregnancy test at the same time Ember did.

“I’m pregnant!” they screamed in unison.
