Panther Force cheered. And Nutsbe shushed.

“That targeting is a lucrative job to many. The Canadians were offered two hundred thousand dollars to discover the details of the Eastern Virginia case and their list of witnesses so that those witnesses could be targeted for assassination. A half-million if they got all the information and then killed the prosecution’s case and it failed to move through the grand jury.”

Nutsbe reached out for Olivia’s hand and squeezed it hard.

She smiled thinly to let him know she was all right.

He wasn’t all right. He’d never be alright thinking of that night or this case.

Knowing what might have happened was still a dragon roaring in his psyche.

Holding Olivia’s hand, he stood. “As we’re celebrating tonight, we want to tell you all that Olivia and I have decided to get married.”

Olivia lifted her left hand, flashing her engagement ring. Standing beside Nutsbe, she said, “And we’ve decided not to wait. So this weekend, we’ll be quasi-eloping. Our maid of honor and the best man,” she nodded toward Thorn, “will be in tow. When Nutsbe returns Monday morning, we will be husband and wife.”

“Here's to your happily ever after,” Margot said, raising her glass.

Nutsbe leaned over and whispered to Olivia, “Not for us.”

“No,” she said. “We want to ride all the waves and experience everything this crazy life has to offer.”

The kiss she gave Nutsbe was everything he could ever want.

Olivia Gladstone was Nutsbe’s third precious miracle.
