All that remained was Luke’s voice. “You’ve made me the happiest man in the world, Emma. Will you marry me?”
She nodded quicker than she could speak. “Yes! Yes, Luke—I will.”
Tears filled her eyes as Luke slipped the ring on her slender finger. Emma threw herself into his arms, laughing and crying all at once. Riley jumped into their hug too as the cheers swept through the crowd, growing louder with each passing second.
Looking into Luke’s eyes, she whispered, “I can’t believe this is all happening.”Luke brought his hand up to her face, his fingers gently grazing her cheeks before resting at the small of her back, pulling her closer. “It is, though,” he said as he wiped under her eyes with his thumb. “I promise to make you feel loved every day of your life.” A sob caught in her throat, a mix of past pains and present joys. “You already do. I love you, Luke.”
He cupped her face, his eyes searching hers. “I love you too, Emma. Forever and always.”
Then Luke gently tilted her chin up, closing the distance between them.
Emma’s heart soared when their lips met.
This was the moment she had been waiting for.
She let herself fall into him, her fingertips tracing the profile of his cheekbones, feeling the stubble and the warmth of his skin. Their beating hearts collided, like the cosmic miracle that created the stars and galaxies.
