Yeah, I bet that would work.

It’s risky, I know, but I already feel an adrenaline rush.

I think it’s meant to be, too, seeing as Sammie just walked in.

“Hey, sorry it’s been a minute. How are you holding up?” she asks.

Putting an end to my pacing, I cross my arms, face her, and reply, “Not good. It’s boring as hell back here. And I feel bad everyone is working but me.”

“Don’t worry,” she says. “You’ll be back out there soon. The guys are done with dinner. I just need to check to see if anyone wants dessert. In fact, I’m about to do that right now.”

Sammie starts to leave, but she turns back when I say, “Wait. I have something I need to ask you to do for me. After you’re done taking the guys’ dessert orders, do you think maybe you could get Nils alone for a minute?”

“Uh-oh.” Sammie looks worried. “And just why would I want to do that?”

I fill her in on how I want Nils to sneak back and say hi. “And maybe give me a kiss too,” I add with a mischievous grin.

“Oh, girl.” Sammie shakes her head. “You are just asking for trouble.”

“I know,” I concede. “There’s a chance we could get caught. But I don’t think so. We’ll keep it quick.”

“You better,” she warns.

“So you’ll do it?” I ask. “You’ll send Nils back?”

Turning to leave once more, she says over her shoulder, “I’m on it now, lady.”

Damn, this girl is the best.

I’m too antsy to sit, so I resume pacing.

My heart is beating like there’s a caged bird in my chest. Nonetheless, the excitement of Nils sneaking back here while his teammates are out in the restaurant, including Arden, all blissfully clueless about us, feels just too good to back out.

Besides, it’s too late. I’m sure Sammie is talking with Nils now.

It feels like the time is dragging, but it’s really not.

In the midst of another round of pacing, Nils walks in.

“Babe!” I’m on him in an instant, jumping into his arms and wrapping my legs around his body.

He feels so good and warm.

Laughing, he spins me around. “Wow, someone is excited to see me.”

“I am,” I confirm. “This is my way of letting you know.”

“Mmmm, I love it. Stay like you are.”

“No problem.”

I tighten my legs around him, as he trails his lips along the side of my neck, making me gasp.

Pulling back, he says, “I should have come back here sooner.”

“You should have,” I reply. “But all that matters is that you’re here now.”

Brow creasing, he says quietly, “We don’t have long, though.”
