Kit raised an eyebrow. “Did you forget who I am?”

“I’m not questioning your ability to protect both of you,” I held up my hands in surrender, “but Ivan can jump here if anything goes wrong.”

She gave a quick nod and helped Angela stand. The human was teetering and about to collapse. Sleeping for a few days might sound great to most people, but not when combined with no food or water and a spell that slowly stole her life force.

Ivan moved around the table to help Kit with Angela, and a moment later, they winked out of existence.

It was barely afternoon, but I yawned behind a hand. It’d been a long day already, what with the attack on the DEA then fighting Octavia.

Adam caught the yawn. “There is plenty we can discuss without you present, Ms. Neill. Please go rest.”

He didn’t have to tell me twice.

Thane, Lena, and I realm walked back to my penthouse. Lena wasted no time flopping onto the couch and closing her eyes, while Thane and I decided on a shower and a fresh change of clothes before doing the same.

Despite our mutual states of exhaustion, we took advantage of the calm before the storm and rallied for some much-needed tension relief in the shower.

The warm water had hardly washed over us before our lips crashed together, our kiss greedy and filled with passion. He knotted my hair in his hand, yanking my head back, then licked and kissed his way down my neck.

Every warm, wet flick of his tongue was like fire and ice. Electric shocks burst through my body, igniting my core with insatiable craving. I reached between us and stroked his straining erection, not wanting or needing to wait. My body was more than ready.

Growling low and deep, he pushed me against the marble wall and slipped his hands under my thighs, spreading me wide. His sapphire gaze locked on mine, and with one deep stroke, he plunged inside me, hot and hard, tearing a cry of pleasure from my mouth.

Streams of water cascaded through the divots between his pecs and abs as he drove into me again and again. Each thrust heightened my desire into writhing desperation and amplified my endless need into an all-consuming hunger.

Whimpering, I arched my back, pressing my breasts into the hard planes of his chest, until I exploded into a thousand pieces of pure ecstasy. I clenched around his thick length and dug my nails into his skin, shuddering with aftershocks. The water dripping down our bodies sizzled and popped.

His thrusts grew faster, more frenzied. As my back slid up and down the slick shower wall, his hands gripped my hips hard enough to bruise. He groaned my name and released inside me with a final deep thrust, his shoulder muscles bulging beneath my hands.

He rested his forehead against mine, and we panted together, kissing each other softly until we could move again.

After a quick scrub and another explosive orgasm, I barely made it to the bed before collapsing. Smoke still wafted out of the bathroom.

Beneath the sheets, Thane curled his muscular body around mine, pulling my back against his chest. My body warmed beneath his touch, tingling as he stroked my hair back from my face. He kissed my cheek and shoulder before settling down, one arm cradling me.

Completely content, my eyelids fluttered shut, and I fell into a deep, dreamless sleep.

After sleeping for nearly fifteen hours and feeling like a new woman, I stood facing one of the conference room’s glass panels. My gaze tracked the various routes into and out of the Summerlands and the Summer Palace.

The Otherworld’s land was more extensive than I’d realized, probably twice the size of Mirognya, if not more. The fae split the four courts into quadrants, with the Summer and Winter regions covering most.

Like Mirdrakona, the Winter Court’s territory primarily covered the mountainous region blanketed in snow. Except in the Otherworld, snow constantly fell in that quadrant, controlled by the Winter fae’s magic.

I shivered, rubbing my arms as I gazed at that area. It was like the cold drifted from the image and blew across my skin.

Lining the paths into the mountains, scraggly trees reached skeletal arms up and out, trying to snag trespassers unawares. According to Adam, once caught by the forest, you were unlikely to return. The Winter Court fae required permission before visitors could enter their lands.

Although, I didn’t know why anyone would even want to visit. Winter Court fae were humanoid, exhibiting distinguishing icy features like William’s white hair and blue-grey skin, and had chilly personalities. They were well-suited for their quadrant.

But the other fae inhabiting the frigid wasteland, the true unseelie, were vile creatures that terrified you at best or, at worst, ate you alive.

I dragged my attention back to the Summer quadrant. Colin was a Spring Court fae and had close ties to the Summer Court through Queen Fiadh. That she had allowed Colin a position in her court was surprising until Adam learned Colin was a cousin of hers, making him royalty.

The fae man had certainly failed to share that important detail on our dates.

To make Otherworld matters even more complicated, the various fae organized themselves into clans based on an animalistic hierarchy. William had been part of the Mac Tíre clan, named after the wolf, and technically, any Court could become a member.
