“Nothing she hasn’t heard before.”

“Still.” She looks away, sipping at her water as she tries to calm down. “So. What’s the plan? Why are we headed to Greece?”

“My dad’s having a hard time. That’s why I’m headed to Greece. You, on the other hand, are a naughty little minx. That’s why you’re going.”

She gives it a moment before apologizing. “Again, so sorry about that. And sorry to hear your dad’s having issues. Hopefully you can cheer him up.” She flashes an apologetic smile, and a strange twinge pulls at my chest. “I’ll stay out of your way. You won’t even have to think about me. I can help with cleaning or something, be useful but out of the way. Give me the ironing or the mopping to do. You won’t hear a peep from me. Then, when you’re done, all I ask is for a ride home. And my safety, of course.”

I think of her words, about cheering my father up. Dad worries about me. I know he does. I’ve thought of something that could help. It’s a terrible idea. I try not to let myself dwell on the fact that I came up with the plan when I was buried deep inside of her.

“What if instead of cleaning, you do something else,” I say.

“Sure,” she says, eager to be of service. “Anything. Name it.”

I’m surprised by her willingness to help a man who just punished her. Endorphins must be humming through her bloodstream as well.

“I’m an only child,” I say. “I’m not getting any younger and my dad worries about me settling down.”

“Understandable.”

I echo her earlier words back to her. “It would really cheer my dad up.”

“What would?” Her light brow creases with curiosity. She raises her glass to take a sip of her drink.

“If I arrived for my visit with a fiancée, then he could rest easy, knowing I have my future mapped out. When he’s doing better, I’ll tell him we broke up.”

Now her brows go sky high and she chokes on her water. I hand her a napkin. She dabs delicately at her lips before saying, “You want me to pretend to be your fiancée?”

“Yes. For the trip. For my dad.”

“No,” she says, shaking her head. “No way.”

She didn’t even think about it.

After the inconvenience she’s caused me, the least she could do is give it a momentary thought. Heat builds as I stare at her. “Can’t you at least think it over?”

“No.” She stares at me like I’m crazy. “I don’t make a habit of lying and I refuse to lie to your poor father’s face. Especially after—” She cuts herself off, shaking her head like she’s made a mistake. “Just no.”

I tap the corner of my glass against the arm of the chair. “It would make him happy.”

“It would be deceiving a man who’s already going through something—I mean—you said he’s having a hard time.” She shakes her head, set in her decision. “No. Absolutely not.”

“I don’t need someone who did what you did lecturing me on deceiving people.”

Her face heats. “True. I haven’t been honest with you,” she partially confesses. “I know. But this—this just doesn’t seem right to me. He could end up getting more hurt in the end.”

“If you didn’t want to bother my dad, maybe you should have thought of that before you disrupted my trip to see him.”

She changes the subject. “What’s going on with your dad?”

“You just turned down my proposal.” I shake my head. “I don’t think I can talk to you about family matters.”

She rolls her eyes at my joke. “Come on. I’m good to talk to.”

“Nah. Maybe later.”

“Let’s talk about something else, then.” She bites her bottom lip in this really sexy way that makes my cock throb as she thinks. “What’s your sign?”

“That’s the best you can do? What’s my sign?”
