“Thank you,” Paloma replied, her eyes softening as he looked at Milly. “True friends are hard to come by.”
“I think my mom just found her best friend,” Orion whispered to Izel.
He thought so, too.
“Have you heard from Austin yet?” Orion asked as Milly grabbed a stack of dishes and brought them to the table. Izel pulled his arm from around Orion so he could get a helping of the food before Duncan devoured it.
“Not yet,” Paloma said.
Everyone sat, and then Beckett, Bran, and Santee joined them. The food didn’t last, but the atmosphere in the kitchen felt more magical than the forest they’d been sucked into.
For the first time in Izel’s long life, he truly felt like he belonged somewhere. He not only had the love of two mates, but he considered Hayden, Beckett, and Cormac his brothers.
He had lost his mom so long ago, but it seemed Paloma and Milly were willing to fill that void.
Izel would be forever thankful that he’d listened to his instincts and found Orion in that hospital room. His mates had changed him forever, had given him a life worth looking forward to and a family he would always cherish.

But Orion started to lift his body and then drop back down, making Duncan forget what they were talking about. He hissed, his eyelids sliding down to half-mast as his mate started moving faster, Orion’s breaths growing shallow.
