“My boss?”

“Duncan Kensington.”

“Ah, I see.” He sounded irritated now. “Duncan is my business partner, not my boss.” Oh, shit, this wasn’t going well. “And my part of the business is to see all pieces and make selections.”

“That’s a big part of the business,” Levi said, as if he had already forgotten calling Duncan his boss. “I don’t have the piece with me, but I can show you a picture.” Levi grabbed his phone from the pocket inside his jacket.

“It’s not necessary,” Lars said.

“So, you’ll arrange a meeting?”

Lars stared at Levi for a moment before shaking his head. “No. Whatever you have, I’m certain neither I nor Duncan are interested in it.” His eyes shifted to me. “Unless you have an angel for sale.”

My stomach tightened and Levi stiffened. He rose to his feet. “I think we’re done here.”

I held on to Levi’s hand and tugged him down. We couldn’t go. This couldn’t end like this. We had to secure a meeting with Duncan, preferably at his house, where my wings were being kept.

“Levi,” I whispered.

He slid his other hand under my elbow and pulled me up with him. “In case you change your mind about the item”—he dropped a black card on the table—“here’s my number.”

With that, Levi turned and walked away, towing me with him.

“But—”

“Shh.” His eyes darted side-to-side. “Not here.”

I glanced around and saw what he meant. Now, every supernatural around the tables was looking at us. “Hurry,” he whispered.

We were halfway through the stairs, on the landing, when three males ran up toward us.

“Where do you think you’re going?”

I couldn’t help but glance at them.

“Aren’t you that angel?” one of them asked.

My steps faltered, but Levi kept going, dragging me with him.

“Yeah, the one who killed her entire team,” a second one said. “I’m sure it’s her.”

I turned to them now, appalled. Where had they heard that? I thought only the angels knew about it.

“It is you, isn’t it?” the third one asked, closing in.

Levi jerked me forward but stopped three steps later as two other supernaturals stood in the way.

“Gentleman,” he started, turning in a circle. “You’re mistaken. This angel here has been my pet for many years now and?—”

“Stop the bullshit,” a vampire said as he joined the group. Another handful of supernaturals came up the stairs. “Hand that angel over.”

Now, more guests looked up from the nightclub, wondering what was happening or recognizing me. Which didn’t make sense. How did they know about that day? How did they know what I looked like?

“When I say, we run,” Levi whispered, so low, I hoped no vampire or wolf shifter or fae had heard it. I gave him a slight nod. “Sure,” Levi said, nonchalant. “Just take my angel.” He threw his hand out and a wave of darkfire rippled from around us, pushing the supernaturals within ten yards from us back. “Now!”

Holding my hand, Levi ran up the stairs and I ran with him. The two males who had been in our way stumbled back because of Levi’s magic, but as soon as we ran past them, they started after us.
