The smile on Possum’s face disappears and is replaced with a scowl. His gloves snap as he removes them. “I’ll be right back,” he calls over his shoulder to his client and scurries over to me. “What’s wrong? Are you okay?”

Oh shit!

“Oh no… no… nothing like that,” I rush to explain. “I’m sorry. I need a tattoo, but it has to be a surprise. It’s for Rogue.”

Possum’s scowl immediately vanishes, and he grins widely. His giant arms yank me toward him, and he wraps me in a bone-crushing hug. “And you came to see me. I knew I was your favorite.”

“Well, that’s true,” I wheeze. “But besides Sammie, you’re the only game in town.”

“You wound me,” he says with a pout and releases me. “So, what can I do for you?”

“I want to get a Property of Rogue tattoo,” I whisper even though we’re alone.

Red flushes Possum’s cheeks. “Uh…well.”

“Oh, it’s okay. You don’t have to,” I say, slightly dejected.

“No, I want to,” he insists. “It’s just…uh, you kind of have one already.”

“What?!” I screech. “Where?”

Possum rubs the back of his neck. “Remember when you got the heart tattoo?”

“Yes,” I draw out suspiciously.

“I added POR where the heart and the infinity symbol meet.”

“Seriously?”

Possum grabs a mirror from the counter, and I raise my shirt up to expose the tattoo. I have to look very closely, but sure enough, you can see ‘POR’ inscribed in the details of the tattoo.

“Don’t be mad,” Possum pleads. “I saw the way you both acted around each other and knew it was bound to happen. Plus, it’s so small, you’d have never known if it didn’t work out.”

I fully belly laugh, and Possum stares at me like I’m insane. “At least it wasn’t a possum,” I say, gasping for breath.

Possum’s mouth curves. “Am I forgiven?”

“Depends.” I put my hands on my hips. “How soon can you get me in to do a real one that we can actually see?”

Possum turns on his heel and marches into his room. “Get the fuck out, man.”

“Dude, you’re not finished,” a voice whines.

“Sorry man, I got a prettier offer waiting.”

I chuckle as I step into the room. “Possum, it’s okay. I can wait.”

The man’s eyes shift from me to Possum. “Not a problem, darling. I’ll come back later tonight. Does five work?”

Possum nods and starts cleaning up his station as the guy puts his shirt on and walks out.

“You didn’t have to kick him out.” I cross my arms. “I could’ve come back later.”

“Friends and family, Skye,” Possum says.

“Friends and family,” I reiterate.

“Where are we going to stick it?”
